It hard to praise the core at this stage. Same for Zen 2 even, though at least they stated there sources for 13 and 15% IPC uplift - neither of which include AVX2 . Intel's claim is too vague to make much of currently

    That's HUGE.

How many security shortcuts did it take?

When do you think we can except Ice Lake?
I think probably not til end of the year cos Intel's also waiting for 3950X(Sep) benchmark. I just hope it's gonna be much better than 3950X.
    7700K - Jan 2017 (4.5GHz, 4/8)
    8700K - Oct 2017 (4.7GHz, 6/12)
    9700K/9900K - Oct 2018 (4.9GHz, 8/8 & 5.0GHz, 8/16)
    10700K/10900K - Nov-Dec 2019? (5.0GHz, 10/10 & 5.1GHz, 12/24 ?)

For sure we won't get Ice Lake for desktops before 2020. When I started this thread I though it would earlier, but meanwhile I got a 9700K and could not be more happy.

Wonder if they'll go big.little in some way.

A 14nm core or 2 for those stubborn single threads and a bunch of 10nms clocked lower.

    2+10 big.little.

Would that be technically possible on one die?

From my understanding the 14nm core will be just as fast as the 10nm core, so no point really.

    Eh?
    14nm hits 5ghz.
10nm apparently doesn't even come close.

just look at all the people whinging in the amd thread and you can see why intel chooses to do what it does here.

Care to link to a production 10nm part?

As per intel slides, ice lake is 4.1ghz max turbo vs 4.8ghz for whiskey lake and 5.0ghz for coffee lake mobile. That's why ice lake is only coming to standard andlower power laptops and not desktop/high end laptops. Processes improve so give it a couple of years and intel's 10nm will gain enough clock speed back to make sense on the desktop, or they might just skip 10nm on desktop if their 7nm plans go smoother.

exactly that is my point so how can you say the performance is down when you have no idea of what the production products look like or how they will perform

But we already know the SKU's , projected performance, and even some Leaked benchmarks.?

Not that it's stopped you 'speculating' in certain other threads - Oh the Irony haha

And that's 4.1Ghz - at some stage - The top announced SKU so far is 3.9Ghz.

you know nothing aprt from that it may have lower clock speeds on the mobile part

the desktop parts could be completely different

when I speculate its from details released by amfail themselves like the radeon 5700xt you could see that was going to be a dog of a product from amd's own marketing slides .

I run intel and just sold my rtx 2070 to get a 5700xt, i now want to sell my z390 and 8600k to upgrade to the 3000's series. It's true amd couldn't smack intel since the core 2 hit, its true amd couldn't hit nvidia since r9 290 era. None of this is true anymore so come out from under the rock your being living under.

Sorry guys troll bait but hey sometime its great to have one if only it was the pub section :/

It's still all true amd can not compete with a 2080ti not even close or a 1080ti for that matter a card 2 years okd

Intel have the best performance core for core overall that is still a factso no not much has chanvged

Poor people who are happy with less performance and bugs and issues choose amd

May have? You mean does have ?

The desktop parts will be completely different that's correct at least - They'll be 14nm Skylake uArch
