Believe it or not this is not even a requirement for a return.
Yeah I know, they even asked for the original cables.
It was a vhs-dvd recorder.
They were just being smartarses as they thought they could get away with it. Unit was doa so it wasn't an issue.
As I said it was years ago and maybe the accc was taking on these companies back then to send a warning and set a standard?
Maybe it was before 2010 when the new ACL came into place, being VHS?
It's a shame they don't do so much now what they did for you then, as now it's more in the consumers hands to take action rather than having the ACCC onside.
I had JB hi-fi tell me i had to return a 2 week old sony 65" tv in it original box. I told them it would be ridiculous for any one to even hold onto and store a box that big on the off chance of a warranty claim. really they only wanted the box because they where too scared of cracking the glass if they came and picked it up.
in the end they came and picked up the old one and put it in the box of the new one.
Yeah that wasn't too hard for them to work out was it?
Yeah it was around that time.
Dad wanted to save his collection.
I see now that the law was changed in 2010.
