I am currently halfway through modding my second attempt at internally watercooling my SN45G, this time I have used an nv68 waterblock and am eventually going for an all 3/8" loop (mcw6000 on order)

(This is still a half finished product, the loop is yet to be filled!)

Check out my previous attempt here:

Pics of the 'new' loop under construction:

This time I am aiming to fit an optical drive inside! (no more external chunkyness)

Any comments or suggestions are more than welcome, I have yet to work out where to mount the psu/hdd etc. but I have much more room to play with! (the psu plug will be located in the blue section of the back panel)

Thanks to all the guys on the forums for supplying all the new bits! This pc will be almost 80% OCAU forum bits!

    Cheers guys,

    BV

looks cool. but the case seems kind of scratched up ... well a lot. why not piggy back the radiator on the outside of the case ... then it'll clean it up a bit.. and have tubes running through one of the pci slots.. dont blame me if it doesnt work coz i've never setup water before but i've seen peopel do it ... and i dont know too mcuh :p

you could try a slimline cd-drive... that would be good.. but then you'd have to mod thhe front panel to get it in.. would save a lot of room.

Slimline PSU while you're at it too, where are you going to fit that?

(looks good, can't wait to see it together - I just saw that pic of the rear, your 120 radiator appears to eat into your psu space)

yeah the case is a bit scratched up but i have two other shells to work with so ill end up painting it up proper once i strip it down to mount the rest of the stuff.

at the moment my main problem is mounting the psu (silentx 250w). It fits between front of case and rear fan, but will require modding to get proper airflow. It would be easier to mount the 200w shorty but i dont think it would supply enough juice (would it be fine if i modded a larger fan to cool it or is it simply too weak?)

slimline drive will be ordered (hopefully) in the next couple of weeks, i'm saving up to get a slot load dvd-rw drive from a laptop. standard hdd will fit between pump and ram easily, but again all the mounting still has to be built and I am running short of cutting disks!

currently the loop is up and running, bar insufficient bleeding and a few probs mounting the nv68

keep the comments coming, i'm still stuck for ideas on the case theme and window mods/art!

I'm not sure if the shuttle I've seen before is any different, but isn't the PSUs for these little cases of a long rectangular form factor that span the entire length of the casing?

Did you manage to put the PSU back in and close the case? :leet:

Not surprised! I just bought the same PSU last friday night, and it's significantly longer than the stock one. I can't imagine how you're going to fit it in there

I'd be a little worried not having hoseclamps on the CPU block - however if that isn't the final mounting then disregard that. There's so much hacked away at the case I could barely recognise it!

I'm in the process of modding mine too :) So far i've cut the window and changed over the front panel backing.

I don't want to go too OT, so i'll just have them as linkies.
    Linky 1 / Linky 2

Nothing fancy - but i'm getting some tinted perspex to mount on there with counterinking screws to mount.

Can't wait to see your final result though!

perhaps (with no photos to go by) connect the psu so the 120mm draws air over it (have it bare or redo it in a mesh case) question would then be what direction you can mount it.

Cheers for your feedback guys, I'd jump right into the modding of the psu now if i hadnt sworn off it except on weekends! Uni and work take up too much time!

The good news is that the longer and more powerful psu fits between the rear fan and the front of the case! I will just have to mod it for better airflow and cable management (as the cables foul against the front of the case). A mesh grill would be perfect! Especially as I want to try my first window mod in this case.

Dens - looking good, love the neat window mod, do you have a stealthed slim optical drive under your hdd? if so how did you mod it to open/close as the buttons for these are on the front.

I'm still stuck for ideas for my theme
    - I want it to last and not go 'out of fashion' etc. though i do have 3 covers to play with in case i want to change things.

why not use a laptop hard drive
you can now get 80gb 7200rpm 8mb cache sata laptop drives
they shouldnt be much slower than ur standard 80gb hard drive

    Updated Pics Sep '05

Had another crack at finishing it over the weekend, after around 8 hours work I am probably about halfway there. Here are a few pics (NB these are taken with my crappy phone camera, apologies, but my housemate is away with his 6mpix digie at the moment):

Firstly I hacked up the back again to remount the Rad:
I made new supports out of aluminium sheeting:
I am going to use the hdd and pump supports from my previous mod:
    Here is the case under-coated:
What the rear looks like once sprayed (much better than i was expecting!)
In a weird contradiction of logic I couldn't fit a shuttle silenX psu inside (its to long with the rad where it is), so i removed the cover of a full sixe psu and mounted it as such:
Next weekend I will rewire the power cables to they are shorter! (you can see the 24pin and p4 plugs are only a couple of inches away from the psu!)
I also have to extend the 240v lines to the back of the case (the plug is bottom left of the rad):
It's starting to look less ghetto!

With an intake fan and exhaust fan being added on the opposite side of the case to the pic above, only once it is finished will I know if these can cool the psu effectively! (Testing without psu shows that the waterloop can handle the load easily as long as it has near ambient intake - hence the addition of a seperate exhaust fan, yet to be added)

I will be using a full size hdd and laptop optical drive. Both these and the pump *just* fit in the space above the psu! Filling will be interesting...stay (patiently) tuned for further updates...

Here's a fairly recent update to this project for those of you who don't visit the worklogs section of the site (link in sig).

The machine appears rock solid in this state (xp-m@2.5ghz, 1.82v), but I am not happy about n/b temps. Will be swapping the optical drive for a slim line and adding a larger n/b heatsink soon... (one exam to go!)

Look at the pics. There is a grey primer coat under the black top coat.

I thought that was bare metal?

Well if he used an etch/primer why does the paint look like its come off so easy?

the primer says you need to etch the aluminium anyway, but i will do it all properly when i strip the shuttle to resize the psu wiring, switch the fan and mod the front and cover.

i was thinking of etching a design into the case (aluminium or perspex), can this be done by hand or do i need to send it away? Would adding mesh sides increase the noise much and would you be able to see inside easily?

I'm really excited to finally be able to start the cosmetic modding soon!
