Bro has shed out the back and has cat 6 run out to it so it has an ethernet socket inside as wifi doesn't reach.

What's the best device/way to set up to replicate what he has inside (i.e. access to network/internet via ethernet and wifi)?

I have an old Archer D7 which I thought would do the job perfectly but I can get ethernet to work but not wifi. Same with another old Optus modem.
I set the D7 to access point only (no DSL), turned DHCP off.
I can't think why the wifi won't work.

    Any help appreciated, thanks.

I am using an Archer VR900 connected to my nbn thing so it might not apply to your set up, but I had to change it to "wireless router mode" for everything to work.

Ahh so you're not plugging it into another modem/router, just an NBN box?

What I have is wall socket -----> xDSL modem/router ----> ethernet cable ---------> [D7 modem/router with DSL turned off & access point enabled & DHCP turned off
If I plug a laptop into D7 ethernet port - all ok
If I unplug and connect via wifi - not ok

Ok, I can connect other devices - just not the device I used to set the router up - well can't connect that device via wifi - ethernet is ok.
It doesn't even see the wifi of the new router
