    Hi guys,

Was wondering if it is okay to leave the SLI rubber cover on when it the graphics card is in use - it's not going to melt or anything right? Never really thought about it until now. I noticed alot of people just leave it on. I prefer to leave my on I think it looks better and protects the SLI fingers a bit.

My card is an RTX 3090.

If that cover melts you've got bigger issues than worrying about the cover melting.

Your card will superheat and cause your case to implode if you leave them as, every gpu states this

Of course it's fine to leave on. I'd be leaving mine on also : )

They make the card look a bit neater leaving them on, unless they give you the day-glo orange crappy ones.

The 3090 backplate gets really hot so I can understand the concern. I leave it on though.

Leaving the SLI cover on is a sign of "I can't afford SLI" weakness.

    That's the worst kind weakness.

Guess what's close to the backplate?

Also, backplate doesn't get hot in isolation.

Obviously anything touching the card will get hot.

My card is watercooled and at 100% load it sits at around 45-50 degrees depending on ambient temps. The backplate gets really hot though, possibly even hotter than 45 since it's on the opposite side of the card to the water block and it's spreading the heat across the whole card instead of being localised to just the GPU, VRMS and memory chips. The SLI connectors are about as far from the main heat sources as you can get on the card but the whole backplate gets hot so heat is spread everywhere.

It's going to have to be significantly higher temperature and probably touching to melt the slot cover.
