Sakura has officially just arrived in Tokyo. Not move to see yet. Takes a few more days. I guess this weekend and maybe still the next weekend will will be good for "hanami".

Prime spots are (among others) Shinjuku gyoen, Ueno park, and many kilometer along Meguro River (e.g between Naka Meguro and Gotanda).

Is Yokohama worth a day trip from Tokyo?

I've got 6 nights in Tokyo in my upcoming trip and I visited the likes of Kamakura and Nikko last time. I'm considering staying aboard the Narita Express and spending my first day there before heading back into Tokyo (Asakusa).

We went there after going to Hakone and Lake Ashinoko for the day - it has the Biggest China Town, I'm not sure how interesting a "whole day" would be there - http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2156.html

You can't stay aboard the Narita Express for 1 day. After arriving at the final station you have to leave. Maximum stay would be around 3 hours, in case you travel from Narita to Kawaguchiko.

One of the thousand Sakura parties in Tokyo (Yoyogi Park on Sunday).

As usual, the locals become relaxed and peaceful under the cherry trees.:D

Nice, I went to Ueno on the Saturday and there were easily 50,000 people there.

    What dates/time of year?
    What interests?
    How long?

Default for Kyoto is Kinkakuji, Kiyomizudera, and then a few other temples like Nanzenji, or Heian Shrine, or Ginkakuji. Philosopher's Path. Pontocho at dusk/evening.

Osaka is usually Dotonbori at night for Glico Man, dinner. Aquarium is somewhat popular. Umeda Sky or Abeno Harukas for a view.

Common day trips are Nara, or Himeji Castle (half-day). If you want a long day trip then Hiroshima is possible.

I think Ueno is the biggest spot for Sakura parties. Another good one is Shinjuku gyoen. That park itself is "lovelier" than Ueno.
