Off to Japan in early september, lining up everything right now, looks like 4 days tokyo, fukoaka, kyoto and around the place.

Just need to find a way to get to himeji castle and back to kyoto in one day

Should be as easy as a quick Shinkansen ride to Himeji and walk/bus it to the castle, then back.

Check Google Maps and/or Hyperdia for exact times/prices etc.

It's an easy walk from the train station to Himeji from what I recall. They do get tourist buses but it a big castle to walk around in.

    Hey guys,

Can Kyoto basically be done in 2 days?

Travelling around Japan with limited days and time.

Looking to leave Osaka on the 17th of October (so arrive in Kyoto approximately 12:00-1:30pm?).

    Osaka/Kyoto: 17th October
    Kyoto: 18th October
    Kyoto/Hakone: 19th October

Hope this makes sense. Need ideas what to do in Kyoto. Girlfriends birthday is also on the 17th so when we arrive I need ideas what to do, eat and make it special I guess. TIA

    Yasaka Shrine & area
    Gion / Shimbashi

    18th morning

I don't wanna half arse stuff but its also my first time. Japan ain't going anywhere so there will always be a second trip. Just this trip I've got 13 days in Japan to make the most of it and doing a mix up of Tokyo > Osaka > Kyoto and POSSIBLY Hakone for Hotsprings.

But if it means missing out a couple things in Kyoto I'm not too fussed. As long as I get to see the major tourist spots.

When I get the chance I'll post up sort of an itinerary of what I've got already booked and sorted. But a quick idea.

Flying into Narita Airport on the 10th October (Land 6:30pm) > Leaving Narita back to Australia on the 22nd October (8:30pm flight)

So far I've booked accommodation for:
10th > 13th (Shibuya) - Check out 13th in the morning and planning to catch a plane to Osaka at the Kansai Airport. So should get there approximately 2-3pm.
13th > 17th (Osaka) - Check out 18th in the morning then planning to go Kyoto by standard public transport.

Need to fill out the rest from the 17th to the 22nd. Factoring in transit times etc. I want to be able to go Hotsprings potentially in Hakone/Mt Fuji (either one) and then back in Tokyo before our flight back on the 22nd.

Do you have insurance? when is the trip? Don't cancel anything based on a bunch of politicians waving their fists at each other, seriously. If shit hits the fan, don't board, but otherwise, just go about your daily life.

I'll be in Tokyo in November. I won't be canning anything.

Check the fine print on the policy, and see what cancellations it covers. It's good to be prepared, but don't go mad over it. NK fist waving is nothing new, sadly, Trump is waving his fist too, which makes it all even more stupid, but it should all calm down soon, until the next cycle.

So the insurance will cover things I've already paid before getting the insurance? Hmmmmmm I was reading some and it's only for illness or such not for "change of mind" stuff.

    hmmm
