Hehe I'm working on my aizuchi. Plus I need more Japanese friends to practice casual conversation [emoji14]
Prices to get there from oz are pretty good these days. "Osaka from $736 Return Flying Qantas (Feb-Aug 2018). Depart from SYD/MEL/BNE/CBR/ADL"
Not sure if it happens often but Jetstar emailed me yesterday offering to upgrade my OOL -> NRT flight to business class for $220. Seemed like good value for a 9 hour flight so i snagged it, managed to get the last seat in the side rows too (all other remaining seats were middle of the 3 seat centre rows).
Anyone going to japan willing to help me out and come home with a few packets of michelin star ramen cup????
Lol yeah my planned business trip to Japan didnt eventuate. Going korea instead... so I need more michelin star ramen cup!!!!
Anyone have experience being in Tokyo during halloween weekend? (I have heard it would fall on Saturday the 28th this year). I keep hearing that its a big deal over there, confirm/deny? I get back to Tokyo from Kusatsu early afternoon on 28/10 and stay through till 01/11, seems like it could be a fun weekend if things are as people suggest.
Shibuya and Harajuku are full of people, most in cosplay. Also the Yamanote Line will be full of foreigners in dress-up too. If thats your thing you will love it.
Having just got back, it definitely seems that the Japanese are more into halloween than the americans are. Theres already halloween stuff up everywhere in shops, especially around the theme parks. Disneyland had ~30-40% of the people visiting wearing costumes or full cosplay getups when we were there last week. Universal Studios is having a horror thing at night at the moment. Theyve turned the maze into a horror maze at 6:30pm they unleash people dressed as zombies and swat teams into the main park with chainsaws and crazy shit, was pretty cool to see.
Weather is lousy af right now, guess its okay that I heard work this weekend Its hard to pick where to go for halloween, there is a lot on.
Just got back from Japan yesterday and I'm already feeling depressed and missing the place. Loved it so much. And as above, do go to Universal if you're there during Halloween! It was one of the best days I've had there. Zombie walk is hysterical. As you know with the Japs being so overly dramatic.... the girls go NUTS! The high pitched screams as they run from the zombies is amazingly good fun and was the highlight of the night. It was raining when I went but everyones in a poncho and you can buy a nice poncho to keep for about 1200yen from any of their stores. Got myself a spiderman poncho and was rocking that - it made every ride even more exciting.. I'll probably write up my iteniary soon but even though I was only there for a short 14 days I made the most of it - you'll be surprised with the amount of stuff I've done. I only wished that I had spent 1 more day in Kyoto but when I get the chance to very soon maybe tonight or tomorrow I'll write up my iteniary for anyone interested. Overall. I fucking love Japan and I hope to go back again soon. Luckily when I had left which was 2 days ago (arrived yesterday) the rain was getting bad due to the Typhoon which had my plane held back by about 3 hours. Was a daunting travel experience but I didn't care too much.
