Hakone area looks amazing. Yes lots of track stuff is closed :( Unfortunately my partner doesn't ski and is not interested in learning!

Anyway, Hakone isn't for skiing. It's mountenous, but not high enough.

Just enjoy the scenery. Around lake Ashinoko, for example. They also have many onsen in this area. Yugawara for exmaple.

It is a he! I have offered but nothing comes up, I still have 6 months to convince him.

I know, I was just mentioning skiing as it seems weird for someone to go in Feb, travel near good ski areas and not actually list it. Yugawara looks very nice, we are keen to check out some open-air baths.

Unfortunately my partner has a large tattoo on his leg so it will all have to be private.

Myself, my wife and our then 2.5y.o. are booked to fly out on 01-MAR-20, returning 17-MAR.
We are roughly looking at 7-nights Tokyo -> Suzuka overnight to check out the GP circuit -> 6-nights Kyoto -> 2-nights Tokyo before leaving.
Four years ago we did 5-weeks in the USA and every day was packed, we want to slow right down and take it easy this time.

Any recommendations for accommodation for 3 people in these places? First-hand is always better than an online review.

Careful what you wish for, I think I have quite a few :p

we had a great time and saw so much, I think we averaged about 15-20 kms of walking each day just seeing all the sites

we are already talking about going back for winter (and skiing) since it was so hot while we were there

I just stumbled across this thread, I didn't think to even look for a travel thread. Me and my partner have booked to go for two weeks next march.
The last time I traveled overseas it was 2003...so I'm due for a trip.

We are flying out of Brisbane in the morning and arriving in tokyo that afternoon.

    Our plan of attack is:
    Tokyo (shinjuku) - 3 nights
    Hakone - 2 nights
    Osaka - 6 nights
Tokyo (central station) - 3 nights

Tickets and accommodation are all booked. Still need to sort out bullet train and local rail in Hakone.
The idea is to do a few day trips from Osaka, main targets are Kyoto and Nara. Then back to Tokyo.
We are basically going to eat and drink our way around the country.
Being its going to be 5-15 degrees most of the time I'm looking forward to finding some awesome ramen and a katsu restaurants.
