tourism is massive for japan... japan is the biggest destination for tourists worldwide i think... my company is making us take all our annual leave this year... but im still not sure i'd want to go yet because of all the trouble with quarantine... and who knows how travel insurance is now affected.

In addition, for the time being, who wants to sit for hours together with 100+ peope in a small cabin?

if japan wants to open up for the tourism and the olympics... they should cover covid medical costs for those under say 50. it would just cover testing and it will just be like the flu for the tourists... wouldnt cost them much.

A mandatory test for tourists? Interesting. It would mean though a certain time in quarantine before the result is in. For the Olympics, I think it would not work. Too many people are supposed to come, and anyway, if until July 2021 the outbreak is not 100% "contained", there won't be any Olympics.

no i mean... if the tourist requires testing for whatever reason.. they should just provide it... but anyways.. just an idea.

It looks like Japan will slowly start easing the entry ban into Japan in June:

Japan to prioritize businesspeople as it eases COVID-19 entry curbs

Sure, strong economic relations with the US is important and I'm sure the business community is putting pressure on the government, but it seems a bit crazy to open up to the Americans just yet.

Keeping a close eye on Japan, I'd love to go to Okinawa again later this year, maybe October/November. My word, I love that place. I've been in Hong Kong since October last year and things are looking good here so at this rate it should be achievable...

It looks like Australians might soon be allowed entry again:

Japan mulls easing entry bans on 4 countries

They say for "business", but that means probably tourists will be allowed in soon after.

Japan may ease restrictions this year but the Australian government is still not even putting a date on trans Tasman.

Japanese MotoGP cancelled. And like Urbansprawl said, how can we be allowed to go to Japan when they haven't even sorted out NZ yet?

Patiently awaiting the dreamliners parked up here to get their asses back into Osaka and Narita routes! Planes are wasting away and i am hanging for some Tap Kirin in the land of the best tap beer ever known.

Australia on a short list to potentially visit and someone was saying to me Japan will pay for part of your trip to come visit, any truth to this? I mean the flights are only like $200 anyway. But if it includes any form of accommodation or train passes my gosh... Might go for a month! Or forever if they would let me.

Anyone been to Sakaeya Fried Yubamanju in Nikko, Japan?

They have these delicious fried buns and I'm hoping I can find something similar in Australia but I have no idea what to look for.

Infections in Tokyo are up again. Red "COVID-19" alert issued for Tokyo again. To inform the population, several structures are illuminated red, such as rainbow bridge.
