Late to the thread. There's a whiskey blog from some expats living in Japan. It hasn't been updated for about 2 years now so I don't know what's happening with it but it has all sorts of info about Japanese whiskies if you have the time to look through it, but nothing very recent.

I remember the first time i had Yamazaki 12 YO and it was like meeting Jerry Seinfeld, boy was it a let down. Between us, the Japanese and the Indians we're doing our best to knock the Scots off their perch but i cant see it happening.

Picked up this beauty for $155.

Found a bottle shop with relatively decent prices in comparison to Nicks so now I don't have to go all the way to doncaster.

It's called Northcote Bottleshop on High Street. Still a 25min drive for me but better than the 1hr trip to Nicks.

Decent range of Japanese whiskys there. The owner (I believe his name was pronounced like kitch/Kish) was very friendly and informative. Let me sample his favourite whiskys and then gave me a little beer tasting tour with about 5 different beers - good stuff.

He had a couple bottles of Yamazaki 12 but still a fair high price due to inflation at 350 so I declined for now but I'll see after a couple trips if he'll discount me haha.

I'm loving my Suntory Hakushu Distiller's Reserve from duty free at the moment. I bought 4 bottles (with my wife)

    So smooth!
