Oh yeah that is what I thought. Never visited a United Club before, only the NZ ones in Sydney and Auckland has been the extent of my lounge visits.

From what I hear the UA 777 fleet is only a few years younger than their 747s so I wouldn't get my hopes up too much about the reliability, plus with fewer premium seats upgrades will be even harder to snag especially for a lowly Premier Gold like myself.

You need to be 1k to qualify for upgrades on international flights. That's a lot airtime! As for the 777's, I'm just hoping for slightly newer seat, hopefully, with cupholders....

To get free upgrades via GPUs for sure you need to be 1k or above. It also helps to be 1K or above to use copay+miles to get upgrades in international as well (higher priority on a waitlist) though you can be any level including non-member to use that method for upgrading. Though as for me my success rate is only 1 out of 6 flights across the pond. I guess flying on the weekends doesn't help.

Yeah, I'm flexible, so tend to fly mid week... Though I also buy the lowest booking class, and no way I'll cough up 30k miles + $600 for business upgrade, considering that 80k miles gets me a business class flight from SYD->ICN->MNL->TPE->NRT->SYD (+$130-ish in taxes).

So I'm sitting in the Silverkris lounge waiting for SQ216 at Perth. Can guest one right now if you're on this flight...or I suppose any other Star Alliance Flight but I think South African Airlines left a short while ago so it's just SQ.
