Just wondering if anyone knows if I setup a PS5 before Xmas to make sure its up to date and has games downloaded and ready to go if it will effect our current PS4 in anyway?

Is there anything to indicate in the notifications that a PS5 has been added to our PSN or anything else that might give away the surprise that we are getting a PS5 on Xmas day?

    Thanks

Set it up with a guest account my man, don't log it in to your PSN account.

Will I still be able to download the free PS5 PSN Collection games on a guest account?

Oof, doubt it. Is it digital or disc console? Should be able to get 1 or 2 games installed then the kids can download the others while they play what's on there.

I'd still crack it out just to check the thing works, not that there is much that you can do if it's faulty because who knows what they'd replace it with given there isn't any stock since Sony only made 50.

Just see a lot of people legitimately taking stabs saying they didn't make enough, meanwhile it's mostly just because scalpers are buying them by the thousands and the general public demand is way bigger than anyone expected.

Yes once you enable the PS+ Collection on the PS5 they can be downloaded on the PS4.

In my house we totally waited for Xmas, but rather then giving the PS5 early we just held Xmas 6 weeks early!

Someone was selling photos of a PS5 to robots, apparently. Not sure if it was legit or not (FB post), but if true, it would be quite hilarious seeing a bunch of bot purchased PS5 photos turn up in a mailbox...

Not a bad idea. Depending on which room you set it up you could even wrap the controllers and the PS5 could just be waiting at the TV to be booted up.

Buy some extra controllers and play family couch coop while you digest your turkey?

    do the opposite

add the PS5 to the PSN and don't say anything

and then DON'T give it to them on christmas

(or at least give it to them way after the rest of the presents have been distributed)

    heh

    hehhehehehe

I think this will be the plan, I have an extra controller I can wrap up and my TV unit has dark glass I can hide it behind.

Wrap the box tho, not just the controllers - leave it under the tree. That moment of ripping the paper and seeing the logo (i'm guessing kids are still kids, not young adults) will stay with them forever. I still remember unwrapping the Nes with my sisters and brother. Firing up duck hunt.. glorious.

Personally i would have put a brick in the box and wrapped that up...
when they open it, find the brick, just say "that's all i could get"

then 10 mins later show them the real deal :)
