To be fair there are different versions of HDMI cable ratings, I'm sure that $3 Kogan 3M HDMI cable isn't 1.4a

If you buy a name brand TV, ie. Samsung or Sony they already come with a HDMI cable.

    Since when?

Neither my $6000 Vera or my $2500 Bravia came with cables, so neither Panasonic or Sony provided me with any when i brought both TVs last year.

My PS3 also failed to come with a HDMI cable.

Every Samsung TV I've seen Series 6-8 has come with an HDMI cable, I'm sure the 40" Sony I setup for a relative came with a HDMI cable cant be sure though.

Don't get me wrong, its a good initiative but keep in mind they haven't specifically said its 1.4a meaning if it isn't then its not up to current 1080p 60hz 3D specifications.

Still a very cheap cable even with the $5.70 postage

apparently you need 1.4 to transmit 3D over HDMI @ 1080p

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hdmi

i have cables bought in 2007 that do it just fine (bought from EzyHD (or OZ HDMI as it were back then))

don't know about ARC though, and who cares about being able to run 4096x2160 when most TV's don't even support that?

so i'm a bit sceptical about the whole version labelling of HDMI cables

    Erm, no.

Odd... No 4,5,6,7,8 OR 9 series, nor any Sony I have sold in at least a decade has even come with a cable to connect to the free to air wall socket, let alone an HDMI cable...

    Z...

Maybe he's confusing sets with sources.
Most players, video cards and set tops come with some way of connecting it to your display.

Back on topic, there's no general noticeable difference between midrange ($40-50) and high-end HDMI cables ($100+). That said, it doesn't mean all cables costing the same are going to perform equally as well.
However, it is also more likely to have a poorly performing cable in the cheaper range - the difficulty arises with not knowing if it's going to pass until you've already bought it and connected it.

None of the TV I've ever sold (when I was still working in retail) ever came with HDMI cables either. That's where retailers made their margin and pretty sure cable makers had some deal with manufacturers not to include the cables. But that's just my conspiracy theory. Most retailers will however, throw in a free cable because it only cost them $2.

This is the reason, a HDMI cable is not required for a DTV to operate as such. Margins are not great in CE, every cent counts to the manufacturer, having said that once the one of the big players decides to supply them, the rest normally follow suit.

No Tv comes with a HDMI cable, hell they dont even give you a RF cable.

i commend Kogan for making there own brand of tv because honestly i think it really is the only way to actually make decent money out of tv's. Unless you move ALOT of box's and survive solely on rebates heh.

In saying that i think they should really shut up though.. First going at it with HN and now JB... i think i sense a law suit coming on soon. There just making enemies of the 2 biggest Brown goods retailers in aus..

LOL. Kogan has been sounding like ole' Gerry recently, having a big cry because people don't want to shop with them.

Woah this went faster than expected.
Emailed them my receipt last night, got an email at 6pm today saying my cable has been dispatched. Only local service so hoping it will arrive tomorrow.
I read all the fine print and have no problem with the marketing thing.

    I need a HDMI cable :D

Whist it is a stunt, I feel no loved lost for it.

I took my parents TV shopping 3 months ago, and I had the sales guy get really really really cranky at me when I was like 'I'll buy a HDMI cable from altech"; saying they have worse picture quality, and other bs.

Almost told my parents to walk out if it wasn't for the $500 I got knocked off a 40" 3D bravia due to the ps3 promotion ending 3 days before.

More like a heads-up for the Average Joe.
"hey Joe, you're being ripped off at JB!"
    which is correct. Good advertising.

    COLES SUPERMARKETS, 1.8metres, $20.

Bought one a few weeks ago, when I was messing around with my Xbox.

    'Nuff said.
