battery Size is not a problem, nor is modes. Just want maximum brightness for something under $100 thats not a peice of crap.

Hmmm... I just realised you can't charge Li batteries with the Maha chargers :(

I actually might go ahead with a hobby charger. This come highly recommended
    http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=7028

If I can get one of those, which also charge NiMH/NiCd, then I can rig up two charging platforms
This for AA (or similar for AAA), combined with THESE for 18650 batteries.

Really want to get one of those TK-40's the main appeal being the fact it can take AA's.
Only problem is i don't want to order it from DX.
Still looking for a place that sells them at a reasonable price.
They seem to be retailing at about the $150 mark

recently started going fishing with mates, mainly at nights. Realised that having a torch is a must, so i jumped onto ebay and purchased a Maglite 3D LED (Rebel). should of checked this thread out first before going on the impulse, anyone got opinions on them?

Noice. What's the runtime of one of those bad boys? Any worse than the 15 minutes stated on the website?

At that discharge rate I'd be seriously worried about the batteries melting in your hand.

Pretty much spot on 15 minutes.

You can only use it for 3 minutes at a time or the bulb & casing around it gets too hot. The battery is only a little warm with normal use, so I'm not so worried about that. The battery is 14.4v 1500mAH [also says 12*2/3A which I assume relates to the 12 individual batteries cased together].

Bit of a noob when it comes to these but have just ordered the below torches from Deal Extreme, mainly for spotting bunnies at night

    MTE M3-2 Cree MC-E
    MTE SF-23 SSC P7-D
Ultrafire WF-008 Recoil Thrower Cree Q5-WC

Anyone have any experience with any of them?
Will do a bit of a rundown when they arrive :)

^ Links of the above items:

I'm not a fan of the large cone design. I like the more compact torches e.g.
    http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.16240

18650 battery torches are already at least 25mm thick. FYI 18650 breaks down to 18mm x 65mm and 0 means round (apparently). So the larger cone torches can be a big bulky, and akward in your hand due to the off center of gravity, plus they don't fit so nicely in your pocket.

But as far as light and build quality goes, they're all decent enough torches. When buying from DX you always run the risk of getting an inferioir product that will break after first knock. Oh and it's been mentioned heaps before in this thread, but don't trust the water-proofing, either. Even when properly oiled they can leak pretty badly.

The large cone doesnt bother me for what they'll be used for, the thrower is for mounting to a rifle while the other two are for spotting, couldnt decide which was better so got both.

already have one of these for a compact one, not too bad http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.21478

While i'm at it anyone have any experience with this? http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.30683

Wow, one foot of baton, right there :p

My Dereelight that takes one 18650 lasts around 2 hours on my batteries before I notice a visible decrease in light output. So my guess is that 5 Cree modules, even being powered by three batteries, probably won't last very long.
I think that $45 is a bit much, and that maybe it should be spent on a better quality torch.

Anyone here used a ThruNite Catapult? Considering that and a LED Lenser P7 as they seem to proven quality torches.

I have 4 on the way from Deal Extreme and will give a rundown when they arrive.

I've got one. It's the first version which has 3 modes (high, medium, low) and a strobe.

I like it. It's one of my favourite lights. Here's a list of other lights I own.

Do you have any specific questions about the light?

Pretty much just wondering how the throw is and what the spot is like at 100-200m? Also how does it compare to the Ultrafire C2?

I know it throws further than the C2, but whether you can see things up to 200m down range, I'm not entirely too sure. I live in a relatively well lit area and, without drawing too much attention to myself, went outside and tried to light up the street. I could probably safely say that 100m is doable with 150m pushing it, but I couldn't see much at 200m.

It'd probably be a different story if it was totally dark considering this light is considerably a bright light in the first place.
