Umm. Just to update my link to the lights review that I posted before.
It has now been moved to a new thread as original thread got too long. :D

    http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=188590
I've improved it a bit by using thumbnails. (loads faster, less scrolling)

Also, I've ordered 2 more lights after many thankful donations.
    - 1-mode Ultrafire C3 Cree Q5 (Ordered on JAN 31st)
    - Romisen RC-W4 Cree 3xAAA (Ordered on FEB 8th)

I wish I had a lightmeter with a PC interface so I can do proper runtime measurements.
but the only one I can find (Extech 401036) is around US$230! Bit too much for me. :upset:

Has anyone tried one of the Cree WF-400 torches (takes 18650 batteries).

I bought one the other week & I love it, but I want something even brighter now :D

I have one and I've included it in my round-up. =)
WF-600 is definitely brighter. Better thrower also.
or you can go the Romisen RC-T5 route. =P

I've just recently become interested into the whole flashlight thing and I've decided my first proper light should be an N30. Is there any place other than batteryjunction to buy it? Preferably in Aus :) 25% of the gross on shipping hurts.

I would have pm'ed you at cpf but for some reason a tpg email address and my own business domain address are on the spam blacklist :Paranoid: 2 emails since sunday morn and nothing yet from the admins.

    Just ordered from Deal Extreme:

    1251 UltraFire 3.6/3.7V Battery Charger
3607 Romisen MXDL RC-G2 Cree Flashlight Black (1xAA)
    5790 TrustFire Protected 18650 Lithium Battery (2500mAh 2-Pack Blue) x 2 6162 MTE 5-Mode 100 Lumens Rebel Flashlight (AA / 0100 BIN) x 2
    10452 Romisen RC-T5 4-Cree 3-Mode LED Flashlight with Holster (4xCR123A / 2x18650)

I've already got one of the MTE 5-Mode 100lumen lights, and its great. It's currently zip-tied to my bike helmet though!

Keen to see how the Rominesen RC-T5 goes. Really hope it pumps out some serious light. (Hoping a lot more than my LED 4D cell mag, and 3xAAA LED Lenser Hokus Focus).

Turned out to be $180 order from DX (with a couple of memory cards and express postage too). :Paranoid:

I've started testing brightness/runtime with the lights and now am posting up proper graphs.

    http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=188590

Now my review is getting very close to complete for each light.
Finally, I can test how long it lasts and how bright it is over time. :D
Gotta thank those who helped me out for this to become possible.

    That's normal.

Normally, when the status first says shipped, it looks as though everything is sent. But your order status will later change to something else again and Invoice section will reflect what has really shipped. It's annoying, but it seems their system takes some time to update what has been shipped from their warehouse to the online system. Oh well, not the speediest of all places that's for sure. haha.

    Damn you guys.

I recently got myself a Maglite 2AA LED from HK for about AUD30 and I thought that was good.

Now seeing all these reviews about L2D and others...:thumbup::thumbup:

Makes me want to spend more for a torch.

    It's the weirdest addiction...

That said, nothing like pulling a little torch out my pocket at the Falls Festival on NYE and shining it on a blackboard 30+ metres away and being able to read what's on next. Got some very impressed looks when people noticed the torch was not much bigger than a AA battery.

Nothing beats the good old 3,4,5D Maglite! Even if they don't shine as bright as the new LED torches, it's still a nice weapon :Pirate: .

Anyone tried the LED addon for the D Maglites?

Yeah got the 'official' LED upgrade for my 4D Mag - was about $70.

It turns it into a super 'spot' light and you basically lose the ability to focus it (end up with BIG black rings and dark spots etc due to the fact the light is emitted from a LED differently from the halogen globe).

The resulting spot it a lot bright than the incandescent globe though, and the batteries also last much longer.

From what I've read, the LED used isn't too crash hot though. I believe its an 'old' model Luxeon.

When I get around to it, I might look into one of the LED upgrades from a third-party manufacturer. I still love the form factor of a 4D Maglite. I believe 'Terralux' make some pretty fancy drop in upgrades.

It's just sad that my little 3AAA LED Lenser Hokus Fokus produces such a more useful light and IS focusable. And thats not even considered a 'good' LED torch! http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=183679 is an interesting thread about drop-in LED upgrades

If the best feature of a torch is its usefulness for hitting someone, then I'd have to say no, there are plenty of lights that beat the 3-5D Maglite! Do you butter your toast with a sword because of it's increased utility for stabbing someone? :p
