An Olight's for life, not just for Christmas!

For a fellow overclocker.... if you don't get any other offers, I'll take it off your hands as long as you pay the freight.

I promise to turn it on occasionally and walk it with the dog and some of my good torches.

Any recommendations for a decent bright 18650 torch? Been out of the torch game for a while.

What have you got at the moment? What's your budget, purpose, prerequisites? My current favorite pocket lights are Lumintop FW3A and FWAA, Sofirn SC21 & Amutorch E3S.

Basic, entry level general purpose - Wurkkos FC11 is a decent run of the mill, Samsung LH351D 90CRI LED, ~1300 lums. Simple UI, magnet base. Available in black and purple with red on the way.

More recently Wurkkos released FC12 with SFT40 2000lm. Throws longer and is physically longer. Has a tail switch so no magnet. can't say much about it, mine's in transit www.wurkkos.com

Hank Wang is still making crazy Emisar hot rods, get your D4v2 at https://intl-outdoor.com/

    www.sofirnlight.com have some good lights, SC31Pro is single 18650 with SST40 LED, 2000 Lumen, Anduril UI. SP36 is decent, 5000lumens 4xLED, 3x18659.

21700 is the new 18650 with a lot of lights to suit. https://www.ff-light.com/ Two of my favorites from Banggood - Astrolux EC03 & FT02S. Convoy flashlight Store on AliE has a lot of new stuff - I have a M21B with GT-FC40 in transit. Convoy L21B with SFT40 is THE bang for buck thrower atm - $50 for 1250m ANSI throw.

Maybe something from the Astrolux range from Banggood? I haven't bought a light for yonks, but in the last year, had a look at what's out there to see what tickled my fancy. I certainly do not have much of a budget these days, but did find the Astrolux brand to be decent in the price/performance ratio.

I'm more of a fan of the 26650 cell, so, even though the lights I ended up getting are also compatible with 18650/21700 cells, I got them specifically for the ability to use 26650 cells and could be recharged via built-in USB-C port. The lights I got were the FT03 (XHP50.2 model) for its brightness and throw capabilities and MF01 Mini (copper head, XPL-HI model) for its sheer wall-of-light-goodness. Both lights have satisfied by long-forgotten flasholichism...so I probably won't be buying another light for a couple more years. :)

    I recently bought a Lumintop EDC18 and a Sofirn SC31 Pro, both 18650 powered

Very disappointed in the EDC18 after problems getting its Anduril UI to work properly, to the extent that I'd filled in an Amazon return

Before submitting however, Googling "EDC18 issues" found advice to stretch the spring slightly in the EDC18 tailcap

Which I did, also cleaning thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol the contacts area in both tailcap and head

After this, I finally had the EDC18 working to my satisfaction, albeit with a bad taste about Lumintop left behind

So, on the rebound, I bought a SC31 Pro

What a contrast - no problems, all working properly from get go

SC31pro's Anduril is also a later release which can be set to turn off the little green LEDs in the power button

    Summary:

Lumintop EDC18 - not recommended - is my second and last Lumintop, first being a Tool AAA with which I am very pleased

Sofirn SC31 Pro - recommended - although a less expensive purchase, feels better to use than the Lumintop - would definitely buy Sofirn again

I've only got these ones left as the others don't work anymore. Probably no more than $80 or so.

How long does Bangood take with delivery? I'm still waiting for my 118w car cig charger. Olight seems to be having a up to 45% off sale in a few days.

Thanks guys, I will look into the lights.

I've been averaging a bit over two weeks delivery from Banggood China for smaller items.

Anywhere from 3 weeks to never. I usually have to wait three weeks at the very least, some things arrive two months later, a couple of things have never arrived so I got refunds for those after some amount of fighting.

Same here. Nearing Christmas, so probably expect 3 weeks as Mr Chilled said. Ordered a Blitzwolf BW-S15 charger that came from their Aussie warehouse and it still took 1.5 weeks to come to me.

I haven't got either of those specific configs. I have a Convoy C8+ with KP CSLNM1.F1 green light. Throws well but not a lot of spill, minimal flood. The stats on those two torches:

    C8+ NM1 Max range: 748 meters (140kcd)
    L21B SFT40 : 1258 meters (395kcd)

The Osram NM1 LED is smaller than SFT40 and the reflector is smaller on C8 v L21 so a lot less light outside of the hotspot. The C8+ NM1 will also have a smaller hotspot

Keep in mind those range numbers are based on ANSI standard, rule of thumb is half that figure to get usable light and maybe one third to really light something up. Which one depends on what you want to do with it - C8+ for fun and L21B if it needs to perform a function.

If you want a bit of both throw and flood, take a look at one of my top 10 favorites - Sofirn SP70. It's about the size of a 3D Maglite, 80mm reflector, 5000lumens with 687m range (90kcd). It lights up a fair bit of an oval, this if from a very similar, slightly inferior light, ThorFire S70S that's no longer available https://i.imgur.com/s7Ucjv7.jpg & https://i.imgur.com/NoY63Lk.jpg

Edit: Two videos to compare NM1 & SFT40 hotspot size,

Looking at getting a torch so figured i'd ask here. ironically i saw the c8+ and thought it was good value; but ive never had to deal with 18650 cells

anything i should look out for and is there an easier option like a torch i can just plug in to charge

wanting a decent throw on it, mainly using it to spot animals (not hunting) and just general useage (live on a 2/3 acre bush block)

C8+ is a good budget thrower but you don't get a lot of spill to light up around you. You can pick up a battery or two and a 1 or 2 slot charger from your friendly local vape shop or online retailer LanPlus & TechAroundYou.

Sofirn SP36 BLF is a nice entry light between throw and flood - 5000 lumens, 3x18650 with USB charging in the torch. You can buy with or without batteries from Amazon, sofirnlight.com or Ali Express depending on your priorities - price, lead time and warranty support. Three LED color temps - 2700, 4000 & 5000K with 4000K most popular, I think or be dumb like me and get one of each. Wurkkos FC11 is a single LED 1200lumen light, can purchase with a battery and charge internally. WildTrail is my brand de jour, https://i.imgur.com/csrZeUf.jpg The medium size light in the pic is a nice little thrower, around 2000 lumens and out to 600m range but not a lot of usable light at that range. Can buy from Ali Express but you'll need a 21700 battery locally.

The main thing with 3.7V Lithium Ion batteries is to keep it between 2.5-4.2V, preferably above 3V - I usually recharge around 3.4-3.6V. Charging below 2.5V could be dangerous. Charging while hot can be dangerous. Apart from that, don't short circuit, hit with hammer, puncture or throw it in the fire :) Get a multimeter if you don't have one. Check out budgetlightforum.com or r/flashlight for more info/user experience.

I'll get some photos for you tonight in my back yard. It's significantly brighter than any 18650 torch I have, probably be quite similar to that sofirn by the looks of it. I'll make sure to get some comparison shots against other torches more and less powerful so you get a bit of an idea.
