Thanks to the members for this post/thread. I went to JB and bought one for the Social Secretary. So far so good - takes great photos, makes and receives calls, sends and receives texts and can apparently handle 13,000 unclosed apps. Thumbs up and smiles all round! Thanks again!

Picked one up on the weekend too after umming and ahhing about it for a bit.

It's a nice phone! Pleasantly surprised to find it was up-to-date out of the box (only Oreo, but patched to Feb 2019).

Bit of a steal at $499.

Id never heard of the unidigi.
Im happy enough with LG the last three phones I've had. G4 V20 V30.
G4 had the boot loop issue but id bought that as AU stock so it was fairly easy warranty experience. V20 was still a great phone, i was just itchy for a new toy.
Since I bought the G4 I've worked on the idea that my phone shouldn't be more than a dollar a day as an outright purchase. That way I get a new toy every two years or so and LG drop in value so fast they seem like a easy pick.
Not sure on your financials but local stock LG will have better warranty if you're worried about that.

But you can buy a umidigi and get the next china phone in 12 months .....

Is the blue-tint on tilt still overly prominent with the screen?

Theres a point around 30° off dead square where you see the tint kick in.
But its not horrific or overly disturbing in/to my eyes.

Edit - your mentioning of it is the first time I'd taken any notice of it TBH. It's not a deal breaker or visually horiffic at all.

Edit2 - installed a couple of inclinometer apps to check. Some tint at 10°
    Kicks in fully by 20°
Still, it's not bothersome in anyway

Just came up in reviews, as more prominent than other oled screen phones thats all.
Maybe they were trying hard to think of negatives..

I'm no power user by any stretch.
Sounds like JB have them in stock, and last time around they had display models. I'd say have a look and see if it's suitable/acceptable for yourself

I'll (try to remember) to grab a iphone 7 at work tomorrow and take a couple of pix at different angles

internet reviews are amplifier of the good and the bad

If you care about audio, the v30 for $500 is a epic bargain.

I went from HTC10 to S10+ and it doesn't seem any faster, though I'm sure it must be.

    820 vs 855, but v30 is 835 isn't it?

yes the v30 is a 835 soc. but faster at what ? benchmarks ? I'm not sure who's using a phone for productivity... but i guess we need bragging rights..
for me its the improvements in battery life from v20 to v30. a massive difference. a rough guess is 2.5x standby and 1.5x screen time.
the audio is a slight but noticable bump up, it's top shelf.
audio reviewer john darko of DARko fame thinks youd need to spend thousands to get a better DAP
