Everything but the $1300 price tag sounds great.

why on earth would anyone buy this when the S10 is around the corner as are a raft of new flagships with the snapdragon 855?

also that price tag is a joke.

this is coming from someone who loves LG phones and has had the G3, G4, G5, G6 and currently runs a G7.

i will be interested to see what the G8 is like. i wish LG would make a big and small version of their phones. the G7 is too big for me (i rock an S9 for my work phone and much prefer its size, often toyed with the idea of importing a snapdragon variant from the US to use as my personal phone).

6.4 too big or too small you think?

G50 probably won't be seen here till 2021 :tired:

Ridiculously large. 5.5" is the sweet spot for me. Anything bigger is just a pain in the arse.

Yeah you're not looking at the specs closely enough.

    The V20 was a 5.7" 16:9 72.4% screen to body ratio phone measuring 159.7 x 78.1 x 7.6 mm.

    The V50 is a 6.4" 19.5:9 83% screen to body ratio phone measuring 159.2 x 76.1 x 8.3 mm.

The V50 is actually SMALLER than the V20.

Both still too large IMHO. I am impressed that they've kept the weight of the V40 down to 169g.

Lets get a little perspective here then hey?

The 5.5" that you claim as the sweet spot is the LG G3. It's 5.5", 75.3% screen to body and measures 146.3 x 74.6 x 8.9 mm.

That's 12.9mm shorter, and 1.5mm narrower, whilst being a tiny bit fatter, .6mm, pfft.

These are the sorts of differences in dimensions where they need to be side by side before you can tell the difference. I mean just how tight are your skinny jeans that 1.5mm width makes a difference?

I mean, just for fun here's a G3 sitting on top of the larger V20. Is this really too big?

Each to their own I guess, but I think you've just drawn the line in the sand mentally and can't let yourself move it. That pic clearly shows, there's bugger all difference, and the V50 is smaller again so *shrug

Also for the sake of amusement, here's a list of things that weight about 20grams lol.

in my view, the width of the phone goes a long way to determining whether its too big or not. its one of the big reasons i like using my S9 over my G7 - its just a bit narrower, and therefore fits in my lady-hands a bit easier.

Maybe tell him to not go balls deep? :)

Anyway, in these days of bezeless phones + curved corners + tall aspect ratios, 6.4" is probably the same as 5.7" maybe of phones 3 years ago in regards to total body size

Anyone actually buy one of these? Has the android 9 update shown up yet?

Asking because it's on a short list of phones available to me, but I need android 9 (supports modern auth for email), without it it'll just be a paperweight.

I can see it's dropped for unlocked phones and europe/US etc, but can't find any definitive word on AU.

Think I'll stick to LG, Samsung audio via 3.5mm is meh. Though that hole will be no more soon for Samsung.

To answer my own question, nope no android 9 on these yet. Picked the V40 over anything else I could have gotten simply because it had the largest screen, despite knowing it might not have the android 9 update I need yet. Was briefly tempted by the Razer phone 2, but I couldn't see one on in person, display model at JB was unpowered :( Galaxy S10e was a contender too, although it was a pretty serious step down in size from the V20, and I've become a screen whore.. The huawei p30 nearly got a look in too, but just seemed a bit too risky with the united states of trumpistan playing tiddlywinks with china.

Loving the V40 so far. A significant improvement over my V20, although I'm definitely going to miss the IR blaster, such a handy feature :(
