Creative are notoriously poor for Linux support. Some vendors are going to take a while before they wake up and either open their specs to allow the community to write drivers, or provide their own.

Outside of creative, most audio chipsets are well supported, including a wide variety of USB ones. Hell, my *Microsoft* USB headset works perfectly under Linux without the need to load drivers!

Onboard should work. The Asus Xonar series also work under Linux if you are looking to still use a good sound card.

I remember doing some game development using Doom 3 as part of a Uni Course. The engine and tools were very good at abstracting the underlying technology for the game developer, such that it wasn't necessary to use "proprietary API calls" anywhere.

If Frostbite 3 and other engines are similar in any way, then it should be a relatively simple affair to launch multi-platform versions of a game. I'm hoping this trend in game engine design continues.

    Hi Guys,

I am installing Steam + Skyrim via Play on linux, I have moved the virtual drives and POL configuration onto another partition. Steam and Skyrim work well.

The only thing now I would like to get working would be the mods, does anyone have any experience with this?

btw, this has been pretty easy up until the mods. game plays awesomely.

    I am using Gnome Ubuntu.

Surely that is a mistake! From what I can gather, it doesn't have the 'infinite' worlds that the PC version has, and it certainly won't have the community mod scene.

Hehehe - it's probably why they have the big red "PRICE GUARANTEE" box there, but it's amusing nonetheless that they price it as a AAA premium title "just in case". :D

Then again, the description may give a hint as to justifying the premium:

There you go. Definitely worth the extra dollars... not.

It'll be interesting to see how "Metro" sales on Linux go. Good to see a bigger game hitting Linux finally!
