BOC Mount Gambier (SA) - does dry ice for $5 per kilo, though I just got an esky full (just over 20kgs) for what worked out to be $1.50 per kilo, coz the guy was nice and they appeared to have shitloads..
"should have brought a bigger esky"

They also have ln2 in stock, did not get a price this visit though (was too excited over the dice deal lol)

edit: have a price on ln2 now, and got another deal on the dry ice for the same price as last time.
they charge the same for ln2 as the DICE, $5 per litre. they do not have dewars to lend out, so its BYO.
we've been getting our ln2 more locally but this might change soon

How long does a 25L dewar of LN2 keep if stored at room temperature?

    depends on the dewar?
some models list their nominal holding period, and evap per day/week on their spec sheet.
like this one does on ebay

not sure of a "typical" timeframe though.

Thanks, it looks as if that dewar on ebay loses 220mL/day of LN2. Therefore 25L of LN2 should last about 113 days! That seems incredible!!

Bought some last weekend from BOC St Peters. $5/kilo, and as t8y said the guy topped up my esky for free. they were open till midday on saturday, but when i pulled in at 12:02 the door was locked and the shutters were half way down.

i also called Lidcombe Ice, www.lidcombeice.com.au who were very heplful and open longer hours but slightly further away (although if the BOC guy had slammed that shutter i would have wished i chose the other guy).

Huge thanks to Darkness Born for this thread indeed! Sometimes it can get pretty tough getting dry ice here in Sydney/Brisbane and in fact any other areas in Australia. Dry ice are great for parties especially during hot weather conditions. Wet ice can be bought easily but they create such a mess in hot climate. Dry ice are good for a fun "effect" too to mess around with the kids. Hope some of the stores provide free storage boxes if we buy in bulks. Else, the additional costs could be massive.

Called LNS in melbourne today, was quoted $3p/l plus $20 delivery to my area (SE suburbs)

    better than BOC's 4,50 a litre.

When you get LN2 delivered, do they rent you a dewar or do they expect you to have one that they dispense into from their truck?

Also, if I'm not a scientist and really just want to get some to play with, make ice cream from, and freeze flowers etc, will they sell it to me? or do i need to disclose what i'm using it for?

I'm well aware of the dangers and precautions to be taken, but really, my uses would be all novelty.

I have my own dewar, as do everyone i know (within th overclocking scene) youd have to call companies to see if they would rent you a dewar.

When they ask what im using it for i just say computer cooling, and they said something about electron microscopes, im not sure if they think thats what im using it for. Dont ask dont tell.
And they know they're delivering to a residential house, so they didn't seem to have any problem with that.

Does anyone have any recent experience in Sydney which they can share? I'm guessing these prices are unlikely to still be up-to-date.
