News says there will be a " bad moon" on sunset tomorrow, they mentioned qld but might be visible elsewhere too.

SMH article just has lots of big words trying to be literary with little hard facts on where/when to look

Hrmm, article says the moon will rise already eclipsed. One would imaging that you could see it when the moon is rising, and by looking at the moon...

Here's some more information from NASA, so it must be good.

I was told 17.49 was the time it will occur (Melbourne).

No source, so may not be accurate.

depends what you are trying to do, i'm no expert but personally i'd:

    use a tripod

    choose manual mode

    f/8

get the shutter speed roughly right just before moonrise, maybe get a few no-moon sunset shots for later digital combination

expose for the moon to look how I wanted it to when the moon came up, then shoot away.

ISO should be set so you don't get too much motion blur from the moon moving, this is only really a problem at ~300mm or so though in my experience.

wasn't near a camera but it was pretty good, I liked the dark moon at the start the most, could see some red after that though. A+ would watch again.

I was lucky enough to get home just in time and witnessed the eclipse. Managed to reel off a few photos too!!
Very dark and not easy to take clear photos... Managed to get some ok pics with some editing though :)

Not amazing photos, but for the benefit of those that did not get a chance to see the eclipse here are a couple of the shots I took:

My photo was added to flickr explore...explore, that has been my goal for the past 4 years.

A photo that I was going to scrap, that was taken with an rx100m2..sigh.
