I always thought CF cards were faster. Additionally, CF cards are actually ATA based, so all you need is an adaptor (no extra processing unit).

Mmm would be great if the device and SDHC cards were a lot cheaper. You can pick up a 32GB proper SSD drive for only around $150.

you hae to remember that the lack of wear leveling will result in a short life span for the cards.

that is IF it can be used as a bootable disk

I thought these types of setup only supports up to Type II cards.

I would have thought that the high-quality cards would include their own wear levelling.

I know this is meant for a laptop but are the SATA power and data connections the same for a desktop drive?

wayyy too late to the game for a competive ssd. should have been released 2 years ago.

these days just about any ssd will spank the pants off that, and most likely be cheaper per Gb

Yes. The only difference is that laptop drives don't need +12V (so the SATA connector in laptops won't supply that). These drives would be fine in a desktop system.

Soft-RAIDing multiple single SDHC->SATA adapters would bring better read/write performance I would imagine, although SDHC->SATA adapters were hard to find last time I checked (SD->SATA were easy though).

ah nice idea... this looks like a cheap china clone (well cheaper) of this SSD alternative

edit: actually looking more closely it seems that the DX one is more expensive... US$106 vs EU$79... and the box is japanese
