Hey All i want to look at getting a little server setup to do the below

    Minecraft Server
    FTP file server

i record alot of videos and outsource the editing to some people and the files are getting larger and larger and i need to start looking at a paid service but this can add up very quickly,

i want something relatively small so i can sit it anyone in the house and run a cat6 cable to it and then RD into it to check info and so on.

    anyone got any ideas?

AWS... if you want constant reliable uptime. utilise glacier for no longer needed video file archival.

If you want onprem - HP Gen8-10 microserver.

Amazon Web Services - Utilise a small instance to run your minecraft server and FTP file storage.
It saves the initial upfront cost of purchasing a machine and its power usage, you don't require a UPS, no fear of power outage.

Etc etc. Pro's go on :)

    Pricing is usage based.
If you give me an estimate of upload/download/static storage and number of minecraft users I can provide you rough pricing.

    Not necessarily stupid

Given your use case I'd go a HP ML10v3 or a microserver over AWS

I use a dell optiplex running ESX for this.
Has an i7, 32gb of RAM and two 512gb ssd drives in it. Works a treat.

Currently runs 2x minecraft servers + Plex + sftp server and a few other things.

ESX also gives me the flexibility of snapshotting etc.

Either way mate. Mines an i7 but an i5 should be too bad.
I do find the MC servers get abit memory hungry.
