New GitHub interface
Condoleezza Rice already has your data analytics, so you're free to go.
Needs more Minecraft.
The paperclip has returned? Nooooooooo.
That joke was done do death back when the acquisition was announced.
The Internet moves fast.
At the speed of dark, I gather !
Jim Zemlin, Executive Director of the Linux Foundation, writes a length blog post, and says: "I suggest we celebrate this moment".
He makes some excellent points. "Open Source" was never a war. There was no "us versus them". Open Source was always about inclusion, not exclusion. Microsoft joining in any open source movement is a good thing for everyone (especially Microsoft customers), and they are as welcome as anyone.
Working on PRs now because of the outage all day. I blame Microsoft
Why? What did MS do?
I have mixed feelings on this. M$ will either leave Github as is and add some of there own touch for cloud sync simplicity or bastardize the entire Git platform.
Lol, i like it
Microsoft are a little smarter today than they were years ago. They understand open source now, and they get that the model is about inclusion, not exclusion.
They're free to "bastardise Git" all they want, just like we're all free to move our open source code somewhere else, and just like anyone can set up a Github competitor. Don't forget that Github exploded in popularity because SourceForge sucked. People are quick to abandon sinking ships.
I don't think anything's getting bastardised any time soon.
I've been having a bit of a laugh at the sourceforge ads on slashdot since the github aquisition... "
Migrate from GitHub to SourceForge quickly and easily with this tool. Check out all of SourceForge’s recent improvements.
Does anyone really have that short a memory that they'd be that quick to want to migrate back to sf?
I think it will be business as usual for github, I bet no one will even notice the difference. It would be pretty funny if they did a Windows 2000 theme for a day though.
I didn't even realise source forge was even active anymore.
Apart from the 24r outage last week, funny I remember Hotmail acquisition also suffering lengthy outages after Microsoft taking over.
You mean, the outage that was before microsoft had even completed the purchase of the company?
Pfft once MS is mentioned te company starts to fail.
