Well that's the other thing, if your shiny new XBOX720 dies, your games are then useless too...
There would HAVE to be a way around things like that.

If it was like Steam though, they'd be tied to your account, not the console, I haven't bothered reading the article because until M$ say it I don't really care, but surely it has to work that way.

Especially for when in a few years after launch they're trying to pimp a slim model out

they might probably make a rental sku for only the rental stores to allow for unlimited rentals though i have an issue: if the rental store sells them as ex-rentals then that would need to also be controlled some how.

That ain't gonna happen, that's far too complicated, and the games would be far more appealing to steal too.

Electronic rental seems a possibility though.

First of all, MS haven't said anything yet, so till they do it's rumour.

Second of all, Sony said this with PS3, and backlash caused them to back down on it.

And anyway if this is true, I believe this is MS trying to get in on some $$$ from Gamestop, threaten their business (it will kill them if all consoles did this for sure).

This is from the same rumour mill who had told us that it has a 7970 OR a 6670 in it. I have no doubt they'll continue to try to cut down on or profit from used sales with further packed in DLC, online passes, etc but I can easily see how someone at MS making a comment about this could be develop into such a rumour.

I don't like how it's referred to as the Xbox720. It's a bit of a silly name and makes a lot more sense to me to call it the 'xbox 3' until a real name is announced.

I hope it doesn't go that way, it was crappy enough that Homefront and BF3 had online codes which messed with trade in values a tonne, but to go that route fully? massive mistake if they confirm it and go that way

the online pass thing still didn't break the trade in as they still offered you to buy the online pass. so buying it 2nd hand + online pass = brand new price.

yes, it uses 512mb of your HDD as temp space before your saves are uploaded.

I’d like it if they went back to a cartridge based system :)
They’re great for kids (for one) as optical discs scratch up too easy. They also seem a lot more reliable – could fix any old NES/SNES game with a quick blow :D

Are SSD’s faster (for data transfer) than BRD’s?

much faster, but there is a cost associated

    BD's cost $1 to press.

personally I think memory prices have dropped enough to consider a replacement to flash/mlc storage. be far cheaper doing ROM storage than having a fullblown 100gb ssd or similar built into the console itself.

in the end, what would probably make more sense is something like those hybrid drives you see now, but up the flash side to 12 - 16gb and use it for smart cache / prefetch and stick a nice 320gb+ mechanical for main storage.

-The next generation Xbox will have a Blu-ray drive
    Will be popular

-Multiple sources have confirmed this morning that the machine will have two GPUs. One said: “It’s like two PCs taped together.”
    LOL

-Xbox 720 will require an always-on internet connection as an anti-piracy measure
Won't be popular, although for 95% of consumers it probably won't be a problem.

-We’ve also been told that the next generation of Kinect will be built into the device as standard.
So now does my 360 have to be front and centre infront of my TV?

These new consoles sound like rubbish..

    No second hand games?

    Failz right there..

Even PS4 are talking about same rubbish.
