I am entering into the realm of doing a proper mini-itx gaming machine.

    I have the following parts:
    Lian Li PC-Q08 (from holdenfanatic)
    Intel i5-750 (from KurRuPtViSioNs)
    Gigabyte H55N-USB3 (from KurRuPtViSioNs)
    Corsair 2x4GB DDR3-1600 (PCCG)
    Corsair H50 (from cavanor)
    Samsung 1tb x 2
    OCZ Vertex II 60gb
    Sony DVD-R/W
    Sapphire 6870
    Corsair HX-650

Some of the parts are left over from my previous gaming machine. I tried to get as much as I could off OCAU members, but I couldn't get hold of any RAM from members!!

There is a mess of USB-3 cables. There are pass through cables from the front USB ports which can connect to the mobo rear USB ports or connect to the USB female to mobo header cable.

At the moment all I have done is pull the case apart. I will update with further pictures and any trials and tribulations that I come across.

cool, looks almost the same as mine except i have jammed an HD6870 in there.

Will be interesting to see how the Corsair H50 is going to fit.

My mistake. It is a 6870 as in the photo. I wish it was a 6970!

    Drives Mounted

The case is a bit of a bugger to get the CD/DVD and a 2.5" drive mounted. In the end I just removed the whole mount from the case.

SSD and DVD mounted. There is not much room between the two drives.

2 x 1tb Samsung drives mounted. There are rubber grommets on the cage and the thumb screws come with the case.

SSD and DVD mounted inside the case. Nothing special here.

To get this mount out of the case there are two screws on either side. Once they are removed the whole mount comes out.

So after a day of interruptions from my 1 year old son, all I have managed to achieve is mount the drives. My plan was to get everything finished in a day! How things change.

I am thinking of removing the front USB3 assembly from the case and replacing it with USB2. There are USB3 ports on the rear of the motherboard and as of yet I have nothing that is USB3.

    Minor Mods

Today I removed the front clear 140mm fan from the case. The next thing to go was the 4 bright blue LED that are on the fan. My plan is to have the case on the desk and I didn't want the bright LEDs to take away from my monitor.

The back plate for the H50 needs a slight mod to clear some ICs on the back. Chips are circled below.

I took to the back plate with a very sharp craft knife and just shaved the plastic until it cleared the ICs. Not the best job or photo, but it does the trick.

Now time to mount the back plate!!

    Testing

I have test mounted the H50 retention and the back plate clears the IC. It does not look like it is on straight, that is because it isn't!

Secured the front to make sure that everything lines up correctly, which it does. Any ideas as to what speeds I can expect from that CPU?

Running identical core system specs (except 4gb ram) and it rips along very nicely, I think you'll be very pleased :)
