    Thanks.

Comparing here with the Galaxy Note 5 I have, it seems to be pretty much on par, with the added benefit of expandable storage.

I wonder which of those 2 would have the edge? The Note 5 is doing the job for me so the nokia7+ should certainly be more than adequate for the young bloke.

imo the nokia 7 plus purely on the fact of regular OS & security updates which would be few and far between on your note5 now

    hmm, personal preference now.

personally i prefer stock android and samsung has a lot of bloat though their cameras are awesome.
S7 is now 2yrs old (s9 has been out ~6 months)

my last samsung was a galaxy s3. I've always stuck to stock-ish android phones since, so perhaps I'm not the best person to ask :p

It's just that the Samsung can be had cheaper than the nokia so maybe its a better option. Unless there's a compelling reason not to.

So can anyone recommend a phone that has good signal for calls and internet?

My brother and his wife just upgraded to the iPhone Xs and it has been a disaster, the signal is shocking on both phones and they have compared it to a friends older iPhone, side by side the new Xs is struggling just to get 3g, yet the older phone has full signal on 4g.

Big issue because he runs his owns business and calls are dropping out when they never used to. Telstra has given up caring, they gave them a 2nd pair of new Xs phones and nothing changed.

Google seems to indicate poor signal on the Xs is a common problem.

Highest end nokia you can find :) I've seen both the 3.1 and 8 around that price for local and grey import respectively.

Looking at Telstra's pre-pay Oppo AX5. Would be for general light use plus Pokemon Go. Battery size looks good and it's a competitive price but can't find much info out there.

My spare iphone 7 plus bit the dust 2 days ago. Speaker works fine with media apps but can’t dial a call and headset doesn’t work. Looking online seems the issue is the audio ic.

Should I get the phone repaired or look at a new non Apple product?

Thinking of getting the new zte nubia X but not available in Australia yet.

I'm really struggling to find a phone that meets my "needs". The Galaxy S8 and S9 seem to meet it, but what else is out there?
    - IP67 rating
    - 3.5mm jack
    - USB-C 3.1 (support for USB mass storage + USB-C->HDMI adaptor)
    - Wireless charging
    - At least 64GB storage + a micro-SD slot
    - I prefer a hardy device (i.e. preferably not a glass back, and also not a huge fan of edge screens). I HATE having a case on a phone.
    - I certainly would like a good camera
    - Getting meaningful updates at least for a couple of years would be nice

If you’re getting the V30 and above don’t bother with the G6/7. The V40 is also not much of a step up from the V30.

So the V30+ is basically a matter of trying my luck at the local JB Hifi?
