Haven't watched any gameplay yet but I hope there's less flying around than in Rise and Iceborne lol. IB's Clutch claw and the fly things in Rise really changed the flow of the game for the worse IMO.

    We be Bonkin'

diji What weapon you main? IB's clutch claw was weak. Sunbreaks mobility was sublime and best movement and combat in the series!

This looks to be a happy medium.

Pretty much every game I change, and whenever I returned to a game I'd change it up each time, so hard to answer lol. The ones I've never really enjoyed are dual blades, switch axe, charge blade, and insect glaive. My faves are probably bowguns and hunting horn (love the song mechanic). I like the tanky feel you can get with the lances, too.

My problem with claw and the fly things was that it made a game that was already quite difficult for me to react to even harder. Like, keeping an eye on enemy telegraphs and remembering what's what was already mentally taxing for me and on top of that, the speed of everything was amped up and I'm expected to swing around like a madman? Just got overwhelming for me. It kinda ran into the same problem I have with most fighting games where my brain can't keep up with everything that's happening on screen on top of remembering my own moves and how to react to the enemy. The older games being slower and clunkier avoided that, I guess. I never got into the G rank stuff though because by then I'd either be bored or too frustrated by difficulty.

Just watched the basic mechanics video and the focus one. Seems like the wounding thing from clutch claw was moved to this focus mechanic but it looks way better than the way the claw worked. The slinger hook makes me nervous though lol. As I said before, wasn't a fan of how the combat was paced with the grappling hook mechanics in its previous incarnations. Having a second weapon slot seems cool too. The chocobo mounts are cute too. I liked the dogs in Rise but kinda felt like the maps were too small to justify them, if that makes sense. Hopefully Wilds will be bigger so it won't give the feeling of crossing the entire wilderness in 60 seconds like I did with Rise!

Might watch the weapon videos next.

If you have 13 minutes to kill you can watch the whole overview (+Bonus dual blades) here:

I wasn't a fan of the clutch claw and most weren't at all but Iceborne mitigated that some. As for the palamutes on rise did you only just play the base game of it? Because once you get to the Sunbreak expansion it opens up much some and the palamutes aid in multi monster hunt's in the endgame. World is slow in comparison without them and certain rare monsters could leave or you could tackle multiple ones in a hunt with each hunter focusing on something else.

Full reveal of wilds will be at Gamescom so looking forward to what they have in store. :)

I remember playing some Iceborne years later with a mod that edited all the damage resistance of monsters so you didn't have to rely on the clutch claw weakness mechanics and I liked it much more. Still too hard for me though lol (same as the top rank in every other MH).

Yeah I didn't get Sunbreak since I didn't like the base game. Steam says I have like 40 hours but I think most of that is idling for cards since I only have one achievement, and I'm pretty sure that's just for doing the tutorial.

A very low amount of maniacally jumping around in that video, which makes me happy! Like I wouldn't be opposed to a clutch claw/wirebug style gameplay being in the game, but as its own weapon rather than adding it into every weapon. Like a kusarigama that doubles as a grappling hook for players who want to jump around a ton (like those sickos who play insect glaive).

I wonder if elemental effects will get much attention. Always felt like those were kinda sub par for how much investment they take (maintaining multiple weapons vs just upgrading to get the best raw). The idea of elemental effects, especially status, was always cool to me but having to build around resistances and have other weapons for different fights got too much to feel worth it. Except for when there was a super busted weapon it usually felt like something between "raw but with a particle effect" and straight up gimping myself for no reason. At least now you can bring 2 weapons so you can have an elemental for your main target and a second element or raw for secondary targets or something.

I like this idea of support hunters, provided the AI is actually not awful.
Multiplayer is the best way to play pretty much any MH and this gives at least a taste to single player only people.
I also love that they're fleshing out weapons a bit more. It seems like every weapon has a few new tricks to play with. VERY keen to try bow again (was my main in Generations Ultimate).

I was a bit disappointed with Rise, it just didn't click the way World and the previous entries did. This however, is looking like they've taken a lot of the positives of world and criticisms of Rise into account.
Real keen to see how this ends up, definitely on my list.

Yes and no, story is and has always been pretty secondary to Monster Hunter games. It's usually along the lines of "dangerous monster threatens X, hunters try to stop dangerous monster, find out a more dangerous monster is actually causing the problems".

Gameplay and big beasties is the primary focus. Think souls-like (learning moves and dodging/blocking, etc) but far less punishing and more action combat styled.

The fanatical bundle is absolutely worth it, provided you like the style of games anyway.
