FWIW I ran Timidity++ with both DOSBox and SCUMMVM on single core Pentium-M 1.5GHz, 512MB RAM running Ubuntu 10.04LTS.

I used the Fluidsynth soundfonts (GM and GS) and performance was good (realtime gaming was fine). Watching the CPU while gaming definitely showed a hit, but it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. Sound quality was bloody awesome too, and I was gobsmacked at how easy it all was to set up under Linux.

Finally got around to doing a few more videos :)

Just explains and demonstrates how to disable the Cache on a Pentium or K6-2 machine in order to get older DOS games to run well.

    Nice vids and tutorial!

Do you know what speed a P75 would drop to if disabling caches?

Very similar speeds, although I haven't tried such a chip because I don't have a board that supports that speed.

66 x 2 is the slowest setting I can configure.

    Time for another video!

Although the AWE64GOLD doesn't have the Yamaha OPL3 chip, I still like this card. It has golden RCA plugs and is very quiet. Almost no interference, easy plug and play, no hanging note bugs and many games support the AWE directly.

It also allows configuring Chorus and Reverb. And this does make quite a difference. The Adlib music in games such as Monkey Island sound very rich and more sophisticated.

It's a free upgrade, so you might as well use it :D

Nice video! I'll have to remember about the chorus and reverb settings when I finally get my Pentium 266MHz going.
