    Just discovered this thread and spent 2.5 days playing with it. :) Fun. Good for these crappy weather days in melb.

    I had a quick go at this this after noon, now that i've come back to it this evening (wanting to have a greater crack at it) i cant get it to work.
    whenever i enable the html file as the active desktop.... my desktop just turns white o.0
    wont show the background (specified in the html file) ... or any of the text.

    any ideas ?

    ok..... it turns out that the Active Desktop was there.... it just wasnt showing. i used some skillfull tabbing :p and some how managed to select the googlel bar and did a search (that's how a knew it was there)

    Then for some reason, some random clicking on the desktop made it show up :confused:

    hehe, no sooner to do get rid of one problem another arises.

    Using the Active desktop Tutorial, i've made the vbs files and shortcuts trying to run a game.

    if in the vbs file and specify the game exe it runs but then the game says it cant find some config files.
    which led me to think that i have to run it from a shortcut (like it said in the guide)

    now when i specify the path to the short cut.... it comes up with an error saying
    i have no idea what's going on because i've checked and drechecked numerous times to make sure the correct path is entered :(

    edit: ... i just tried putting the shortcut into the WINDOWS folder instead of specifying the location........ now when i execute the vbs file it asks me where i want to copy the shortcut to :Paranoid: :upset:
    this is driving me nuts.

    I do it differently to run programs. This example runs Sim City 4.

    <a target="_self" onClick=" ShellExJ('C:\\Program Files\\Games\\SimCity 4\\Apps\\SimCity 4.exe')" href="javascript:;">Sim City 4</a><br>

    you'll need to inclue the following in the HEAD section to run the ShellExJ command.

    <script language="JScript">
    //Used for executing program links. Filename is path of file. When called it executes it.
    function ShellExJ(filename)
    {
    var objShell = new ActiveXObject("Shell.Application");
    objShell.ShellExecute(filename, "", "", "open", 1);
    }

    </script>

    Thanks :)

    A couple of people have requested it so I zipped it up.

    If you are going to use it feel free, but give credit where credit is due. And try and modify it. I want my desktop to be original damn it :p

    Just part of the css

    Although keep in mind it is an IE only method and shouldn't work in other browsers. Of course this doesn't matter for active desktop but if you are using it for a webpage then google for other methods for mozilla etc.

    Stratosfear, please, the name of the wallpaper (the glass rose?)from your original desktop - I'm going nuts bouncing around deviantart trying to find it.....the catagory would be a great help.

    BTW there are over 6 million piccys there......

    (idiot edit)

    Ok forget it, just found it. Googled the site and bingo!

    *note to self, think first then ask.....
