    Hi all,

I have bought a 500GB Premium ES for $193 (new) the other day and I was wandering if all the folders with software that came inside the drive are necessary as I cant be bothered having them. I dont see the point.
Also, that capacity LED ring, does anyone use it?

I have seen the green version, I think its My Book essential ext HDDs.
I have the 2 blue ring version. I tried safe removing by USB, etc and nothing would turn it off, except that I pressed the button for like 3 seconds and it was OFF.
Sometimes I copy like 2GB across and then I cant remove it from the USB by windows. I am not sure if I would lose data by just unplugging the USB cable.

Does anyone use the software that came with the HDD?

as long as write caching is disabled you can pull it without safe unplug just fine.

    thanks mate.
    I wasnt aware of that.
Usually I just unplg the thing (usb drives) when they finish copying stuff across.

Lots of people don't realise this. I ensure it's disabled on all my USB drives but people always tell me I need to 'safely' unplug them.

I did not know it - an extremely useful piece of information!

I'm feeling quite a lot of gratitude at the moment.

Note the keyword though "SAFELY", when you pull out the drive when its finished copying, how do you know a process wont just up and start reading/writing to the device?
Safe remove is just that, SAFE. You know.. just incase :)

M_D_S, I am looking for the same thing.

I got it a that price because I bargained it.
I bought more and sold them all on Ebay, knowing that I can't sell new stuff here.
