I got a case of my friend and i was wondering what i could do with it so i thought i'd mod it and make a nas box. I had a spare p3 mobo and cpu and 128mb of ram laying around so ill put that in and ill install freenas i only have a 20gb and a 40gb hard drive to put in it atm but ill get more.

so heres what the case looked like before i did anything
    [IMG]

first i covered up the floppy drive by with the perspex cutoffs from marcels mod
    [IMG]
then applied the putty and smoothed it out into shape
    [IMG]
then let it dry (only took bout 10-15 minuets) and sanded it
    [IMG]
then i painted the front and the plastic top part
    [IMG]
then i cut the 5.25" bay so it could only hold 1 drive taking up less space
    [IMG]
then i took apart the case as mauch as i could and painted it all a nice gray:thumbup: yeah ino how boring but its the only paint i had and i didnt want to spend any money on this
    [IMG]
then i put it all back together and it looks like this
    [IMG]

when i get around to it i will make a hard drive bay facing out to the side of the case that probably wont be till next weekend.

    they're mostly 160 and 200s, plus 2x80gb satas, 1x120.
point i was trying to make is you can do anything u can think of if you're determined enough. I'm not suggesting u try to squeeze 20 drives into your box, the pics are an extreme example of what's possible, that box is 3 yrs old and it serves me well. All the air is pulled in through the holes drilled into the side of the front facia and forced across the drives. If you're building a box i'd suggest you keep it tidy, as opposed to the spaghetti maze my pics show. That ones 3.3TB and its called filepimp.

I did like the effort you put in to painting the internals, you're going to colour co-ordinate all your components? ie, something to contrast the silver?
I'd suggest maroon, but you're not a queenslander

MAN! Looks pretty nice. "Bland"? Pfft. I say "Minimalist". Seriously, it looks so swish. Make sure you paint it a nice subtle colour, not some flashy bling thing.

Gonna stealth your ODD? Have you thought about alternative ventilation mthodologies? eg. side-venting/concealed mesh to preserve/complement that minimal fascia?

Whatever you do, it's looking good so far! Keep up the good work man.
And PS - two projects at once?! My god man, do you sleep?

lol yeah i sleep sometimes but yeah im thinking of putting a fan at the fron and1 at the back and probably 1 on the side i just dont have any money at the moment. Also i got the hard drive bay out of another cmputer that im going to put in facing out to the side im guna have to cut a section out of the motherboard tray to put the hard drive bay back and then i'll start using it.

sorry about all the wrong spelling for some reasen the spell check dosnt work on this computer.

ive got a codegen 550 identical model... not a bad PSU... cheap and good quality (for a cheap PSU)

but i still think 20 HDD is sorta overkill for that psu!
