    Hi all

I'll start by saying that I am a project manager (head contractor) in the commercial sector and as such my knowledge on the install and testing of network cabling is limited to commercial projects.

My experience in commercial is that cables are run, terminated, tested and then as part of the sub-contractors O&M Manual they are to submit TCA1's and all test data.

Cut a long story short I have recently had a new home built and the builder and their subbie have terminated cables at wall plates, however, all cables have not been terminated at the rack, both ends at WAP locations and both ends for a handful of external camera.

I have had a similar situation with the builder regarding a 3ph power supply that was left unterminated and in that case I was able to cite clause from AS3000 to illustrate that they were in the wrong and get the matter resolved.

My question is if there is a requirement for licensed cablers to terminate both ends of a cable for residential installations and if so is there a Standard and clauses that I could refer to in future discussions with the builder.

I have been looking at the ACMA site as well AS/CA S009:2020 and AS/CA S008:2020 but im not finding any clear requirement in those documents.

    Any assistance appreciated.

Probably not a legal requirement, but if they are contracted to install and terminate all cables, then they should be installing and terminating all cables.
    If not, don't pay them.

    Sparkies? Or actual Registered Cablers?

Technically the requirement is to terminate to a Mech (socket) Yes we can terminate to a Male Plug now days... and Wire map as a Base level of testing.. If you are wanting To get 25 year warranty on it then Fluke is the way to.

Never had a domestic client Certified... they have asked I gave them the price of me hiring the tester and providing the results they then agreed it wasn't worth it...

There isn't a requirement. S009 doesn't even specify for it to work, only that it is run safe.
If your contract says they have to do it, then they have to do it.

Thanks all. I have to say that this home build has been an eye opener for me and an opportunity to see residential construction up close and personal. Residential construction is just awful.

Yes. I worked in commercial construction for many years doing contract administration. While doing that I saw some of the stuff done on residential sites and it just blew my mind. There is no encouragement to do anything properly or on time when the penalty for being late is $100/day liquidated damages and that's considered to be expensive. Most sites I was on had $10000/day or more.
