philquad the setup for the Deco is an absolute piece of piss

Granted you need to setup a login for the app, use your son's email address whilst he is there with you, use notes on your phone and save the password on his phone notes and on your phone as well when you inevitably have to do tech support

Copy and paste the wifi password into notes too

It's follow your nose stuff, just click around the Deco app on your phone, look at all the options etc, follow the documentation

ok.. weird thing... on my main PC in another room, i'm only getting 100mb
I thought it was the switch i was using, so i got a new gigabit switch... but nothing changed.. still getting slow speeds..
Any ideas as to what i should look at?

Sledge do a diagram for us, show us the chain of connection including the cables, what they're rated for, what the port speeds are advertised as, what wifi card, what model exactly, etc

NBN box on wall -> (what router, what speed are the ports?) -> switch (which one, port speed) -> wireless router (which one, model, ports)

    ETC

just tested another PC in the next room over (but on the same part of the network) same result
I'm wondering if the nbn installers damaged the ethernet cable when they were jamming it back into the wall

    chain of network goes:
    NBN > Asus DSL-AX82U > ethernet through wall/roof > to PC (mobo above 2.5gb)
everything on the other side of the ethernet cable gets 500mb
by the looks, everything on this side gets just under 100mb

i don't know what CAT the cable is without pulling stuff out the wall (looks like it's CAT6E)
though windows still reports the link speed as:
Aggregated link speed (Receive/Transmit): 1000/1000 (Mbps)

    Manufacturer: Realtek
Description: Realtek Gaming 2.5GbE Family Controller
    Driver version: 10.71.312.2024

sounds to me like an ethernet port, cable or cable run is good enough to handle 100mbps but not anything higher

almost certainly one of those things and not your router, connection to the internet, motherboard ethernet port, etc

but i did just see someone talk about their ethernet port / IC that drives it, doing only 100mbps after it was somehow damaged by their switch or somesuch? was that you??

take your PC to the wireless router and plug in a known-good cable. see what speeds you get. if that's 100% a-ok, then it's your cable run.

works backwards on these things, man. trouble shooting = logic = tried all the things my brain tells me to try, before i even hit the internet for a google search, let alone a forum post

and not meaning to be condescending there, but honestly that is the process.

    a professional did that?

    worst. termination. ever.

if only one of the wires is not right, it'll negotiate down to 100. gigabit+ needs all 8 working and wired correctly. 10/100 is more forgiving.

    call NBN

tell them your installer left a tool at your house

can you get his number, or get him to call you, please?

(i already got and saved my installer's number, bloke was a legend on the day and did a super neat, time-heavy-but-whatever install)

get the prick to come back and do it properly, especially if he charged you to do it, but even if he didn't... absolutely shit house

Antsig tools seem ok but avoid their cat6 cable.
This is the last antsig cat6 I purchased (and will ever purchase)
Look closely and you'll see the sheathing on the individual wires is split, exposing the copper.
It took met a while to figure out why my new camera wasn't working properly.

just re terminated...with new wall plug
and it's still the same :(

Might try using A type instead of B type termination and see if that helps

I've only ever had one case of an ethernet cable being faulty. Can you connect both computers directly to LAN ports on your router using Ethernet cables to see if speeds are identical? I have two computers and when I do that Speedtest gets basically identical speeds. I don't use a switch like you do.

I have tried both through the switch and directly into the wall plug.. no difference
I took the pc over to where the router is and plugged in and got full speed...

That does suggest a faulty ethernet cable. Try installing a new cable or get a cabler to do it.
