Between new gpus I've been doing some gaming on a IGPU and that has got me thinking about how good some games run on integrated graphics.

Half life 2 2004, Bloodlines 2004, Bioshock 2 remastered 2016 (OG 2010), Portal 2 2011, Bioshock infinite 2013 all play well and still look good relative to new games.

And the most played game on steam today CSGO 2 - 2023 is getting 90-100 fps on low settings – yes it isn't ideal but is very playable
All with a max reported gpu power of 25-30W on a 7700x IGPU that is known for having a mediocre rdna2 IGPU. The cpu temps dont seem to change much when using the IGPU, so maybe it uses less power then reported.
New gpus use 10-15x the power(over the igpu) and look pretty but then I see high end gpus with new games at 4k under 60fps or worst with RT I wonder where the progress has gone.

I'm probably wrong but it feels gpu tech is always pushing for the next 20-50% FPS up-shift from previous gen(nv 50 series ha-de-ha) from a mix of better efficiently and brute power but the game engines are lagging behind.
Maybe NV and AMD are on the correct path with upscaling and frame-gen – as game engines add more features to look pretty but become less efficient.

GPU would be my most expensive and upgraded component. I love new tech but feel the next gfx wow factor will be from software making the game engine more efficient .
Cpu upgrading has gotten less important in the last 6 years maybe its gpus turn now.
    Am I wrong?

Im still excited AF for my next new shiny GPU tho.:D

My PC typically has a GPU that's two generations behind, because I can't justify the expense of buying the latest card on the market. Lately it seems to me that performance increases between successive generations have been smaller than before, so I won't notice much of a difference unless I sit on a card for a generaiton or two.

    The returns aren't diminishing if you're playing on monitors like the 27" 2560x1440 480hz Asus PG27AQDP or the 39" Ultrawide 3440x1440 240hz LG 39GS95QE.

OK well I'm playing on a yamcha ultrawide 3440x1440 IPS panel, so hopefully that means the 4xxxx series will offer a decent upgrade from my 3060 Ti.

You're a tad off that mark. 4.5 billion years at least!

What's that got to do with Ray tracing ?
The light coming from the sun isn't doing any tracing in order to get here or anything??
Plus the calendar doesn't work that way either :wired:

Can you please sell me that memory.

    Relevant to the thread.
I own a 1080ti and game at 1080p. Literally nothing is worth the cost to upgrade it, it wasn't last year, it isn't now. Until I go higher res that is. Hype train and FOMO is real.

I have essentially unlimited patience with this stuff, I buy halo products when they're about 4-5 years old. Serves me well.

I bought an RTX 4070S when the RTX 50 series was released, got it for a reasonable price as a result, and couldn't be happier. Overclocked, it's at roughly RTX 4070Ti performance levels.

same I’m only just now upgrading my 1080ti to a 2080ti (which is roughly equivalent to a 4060ti anyway) because the 2080ti has come down to under $400 making it a relative bargain (like my used 1080ti was)

I said “at least” not ‘around’!

It definitely is at least 2,025 years old. Its also at least a billion years old

you'll be hard pressed to read the mind of a schitzophrenic. (I can't)
what I was originally posting was:

new. wrapped in anti-staticbag it has to be for me. from the many hands and robotic machines it came through to get to me.

the world has changed though. hence the meme. and talk of times long ago.

    put another way.
    this feels like the past.

jensen is long gone into the future. and we're dicking around with these tonka toys.

    the world has changed.
    ==
yeh the narrow parameters of the topic.

but another example of how out of date 'we' are.
the great prophet Jensen Huang has spoken.
the cpu is yesterday. specialised computing is tomorrow.

but there are retro threads so that is apt.

5090 is a hemi built on an 'old' node. Jensen is talking a quantum leap into the future. the conventional pc is a thing of the past. hey but so am i. so. it's appropriate. owell no dgx for me.
