Still find it staggering we can reach out that far. Amazing and exciting at the same time.

Indeed, just 30km wide. Is there a definition by size?

    What Is A Moon?

8 Days out, and the Probe has restarted in Safe Mode.
9 hour round trip for communications, hopefully they can get the sciencey stuff back up before it flies past, never to be seen again.

And with 4.5 hours of input lag... it's a bitch to work out when to press F8 to bring up the startup menu and select normal.

Less than 5 hours to the fly by.

It will be sometime tomorrow before we know if everything worked, and a month before all the hires stuff comes back.

Still exciting to thinking ability to lob a probe within a few km from plutos surface from this distance.

Only a few hours to go now.

Surprised there isn't more interest in this, particularly on something like OCAU?

I've been checking this site every few hours:

    http://pluto.jhuapl.edu/soc/Pluto-Encounter/index.php?page=1

Still 2.5M km out last I checked. Hopefully the xx,000 km data comes back soon :D

I read it's going to take like 1.5 years to send back all the data or something  :weirdo:

watched the dashboard and livestream, what an amazing event takes a while to sink in that it really is the end of an era of exploration.

The image released at 8am is stunning!

I don't see it quite that way, but I get what your saying..

Cool pictures. I would have thought people would be totally over this. Oh well, there are no nerds anymore, only geeks who have hipster beards.

    Still very cool.

I know there is plenty more to come of course but it really feels like we have just set a big milestone in human history :)
