Updates on the Monster Boy blog:

Some explanations as to why the development is taking so long. Looks like a pretty major graphical overhaul has happened. I think I personally like the simpler artwork, but it seems they're going for something a bit more detailed for eye candy appeal.

Either way, good to see it's still progressing.

I've played enough of it on Windows, but the soundtrack is now available (with extras), so I bought that from a Linux machine to show support

I would have gladly paid for that presskit. A shame that wasn't released to the public.

Had the Limited Run version been released earlier, I would have picked that up instead of the digital release. But I think given the choice of where to spend my money on the same product again, I'll go the Linux release and OST instead.

For the technically minded, some great commentary on the dev tools from the guy who ported the game to Linux:

I bought the soundtrack on Bandcamp today:
    https://dotemu.bandcamp.com/album/wonder-boy-the-dragons-trap

That includes lossless FLAC and ALAC formats.

Apparently it's on Steam as well.

It's got a bunch of bonus material not in the game as well. Been listening to it all night. Beautiful chillout music after a particularly tough day at work.

no way my parents would let me call a number that cost $X per minute! just had to figure it out, or hope a gaming mag had some tips. out of curiosity, how did those game help lines actually work, as surely theres no way a person sitting in a call center can know every secret for every game. unless they just referenced some in house faq book.

I think it was cheaper if you were a member of the SEGA club, but I dont think I ever got in trouble with the parents for it. I guess the Hotline staff just had a PC with all the games hints and tips in front of them and searched for your question.

I do remember having a great conversation about the Mega Drive and its impending release with one of the staff, its good to know fanboys existed before the internet. :p

"Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom" will apparently have a playable demo up at Gamescon later this month. Full release is still scheduled for later this year. Source.

And a short new video is up showing off some of the retweaked artwork:

New gameplay footage. Plenty of spoilers inside, so don't click if you want to play this spoiler-free on release.

here's something for those who love to make levels - wonder if the community will run with this.
