As a portrait shooter with quite an investment in Canon glass, I like where Sony is headed and am seriously thinking of I'll dabble in them when I upgrade my 5D-II.

Alright... I bit the bullet and am picking up an A7RIII this afternoon to go with my A7II I'm really enjoying :)

I do have quite a few Canon and Sigma lenses I'd love to be able to use with AF though... any suggestions on an adapter to invest in? Does the Sigma MC-11 support Canon lenses or only Sigma lenses? Or is the Metabones my only real option?

    I have the following:

    Canon 17-40mm f4
    Canon 50mm f1.2
    Canon 100mm f2
    Canon 24-70mm f2.8 v1
    Canon 70-200mm f2.8 v1 non-IS
    Tamron 150-600mm G1
    Sigma Art 35mm
    Sigma Art 50mm

Everything you list except for the Tamron works great with the MC-11 on the R3.

The battery life on the mark iii alone is a game-changer for mirrorless cameras - can't wait to see Sony employing this tech further down its (more affordable!) product line in the coming years.

Battery lasts for ages. Longer than my a99 did by a mile. Kinda wish I didn't buy a second battery right now lol

So I spent the day at the Tennis today. Shot most of the day with the A7R III and 70-200 F4 in crop mode. Shot RAW, and ended up shooting about 800 images. Used about 65% of a full battery, but I was not turning it off. Just letting it go to sleep. I say that is pretty good. Posted a few images in the Gallery section if you want to have a look.

How do you find working with all the larger image file sizes with that quantity of shots in post?

Nice one. I've only used my second battery once now, and that was for an all day event, and the second battery was only used a smidgen.

Larger file size compared to what? It is the same file size as my A7RII. And in crop mode it is a pretty small RAW file. 800 photos works out to be about 14gb, Which I don't think is alot. Lightroom still takes an age to render 1:1 previews though. That they still have not improved.

Personally i use photomechanic to cull images prior to import, makes life a lot easier when it comes to the rendering of previews etc

Good to see Sony getting on board with this, its so handy to have.. I have had loaner gear 4 times in the last 12 months with CPS.

Definitely ticks the box for pros wanting to be covered.

Definitely attractive to me. I just need two more G/GM lenses to qualify now, which was already planned for this year anyway.

It's not that hard to qualify though - most of us likely already have an APS-C Alpha-branded camera, so there's your second body, and so the rest is just lenses that most of us would probably have in our collections anyway. The only real issue is that I can't use my non-Sony lenses like my Zeiss Batis' to qualify with.

Considered it but own zero lenses (got my 55mm zeiss grey market)
Have considered looking out for damaged G-series glass just to qualify
