looks liek it can... with the "Best for retina display" option

1200p is the highest of the scaled options

EDIT: oh.. default must be that "Best for retina display" option... so 900p upscaled

Have another read - they're doing what they did on iPhone 4, then the new iPad - pretending there is no more room than before (@ 1440x900), but rendering most things (fonts, icons, etc) at a higher resolution. This is a nice way to do it - 1/4 sized text would suck.

The ssd is not soldered to the motherboard in the macbook air. it is user upgradable since it just plugs into a pcie slot on the mobo. The ram was soldered to the motherboard so that wasnt upgradable.

Out of interest, what other options for 15" laptops are there out there with i7, dedicated graffics and a screen res better than 1680x1050? (or 1920x1080)?

I'm sure there must be some, but just wondering which.

I can understand the double-by-default setting, but bit strange there is no full res option.

I suspect that the display can switch to the full res when you're running any of the programs they mentioned?

One quote on a website re the scaling says:

So perhaps it always runs at the full res, you just select the effective size of your screen. For text, its pretty easy to scale it up however you want and keep it crisp and legible. If you select the halfsize res (in any dimension), then you just double the font size and the output size is the same (measured in mm), but double the height of pixels. Of course it would be crisper and higher resolution.

It just doesnt make any sense that Apple would release the product if text in particular will just be scaled by doubling pixels...

What a silly resolution for such a small screen, and only 1GB for it?

It is like the iPhone/iPad retina panels. They don't give you the stupid high number of pixels to use. You get the same res as before, but made up of 4x as many pixels which give it a far superior level of image quality.

Apple stores for sure know. JB floor staff might not, but the people that enter in the invoices and deliveries certainly do. There is a website that we log in to which shows all our Apple orders that have been sent.

I can only look at Mac1 stores, and in that case yes they have been ordered and on there way. I cant imagine any Apple resellers dont have them on the way right now.
