i want one.
that is all.
My CCIE/Apple fan buddy seemed fine with it - if he doesn't have a problem, I'm OK with it too.
I don't like that I would have to buy an accessory to make it work properly. Still cannot be convinced that is a good idea.
ok so following this thread.. im just going to make a brief point form overview of what we have observed or researched about this retina display (im trying to decide to get it or not)
1. Pointless for video because videos dont support that resolution
2. Pointless for games because the graphics card wont be able to handle games (even d3)
3. Uses 4 pixels to create one which actually isnt its native resolution.
4. Pointless for editing because the graphics card wont be able to handle it
5. SSD is soldered to the MB? (i think?... did we establish that) so you cant upgrade if it ends up dying.
just from these points, im going to say that retina display is a bit effing pointless at this point without that graphics card punch? pretty much pointless getting it all together?
seriously correct me if im wrong, im trying to decide here
I also found a pic showing that the ssd in the new mbp is the same sort as the mba and will be upgradable but yes the ram is soldered to the mobo just like the air but that isnt a big deal since they come with 8gb minimum.
You can see the ssd drive just below the logic board on the left side and it has the same pcie x1 connection on the right side of it.
Wait for reviews/benchmarks, and go to an Apple store and play with one.
For video editing having a full res preview + editing space will be incredible for editing on the go.
I am getting sick of the alloy look and getting board with the same apple look.
I see RAM that is soldered on the main board as a issue. The abount of time I have had faulty RAM 1 or 2 years down the track. And when I do want 16Gb of Ram in 8 months time when I have another VM or a new piece of software that would need it, I would have to go out and buy a whole new computer that cost $2500+.
answers in red.
lol thanks for aggressive answers.. very informative
So what happens if you have one years warranty, and one day past the day of warranty expiration the RAM or SSD completely fails?
Walk into the Apple store and they'll help you out.
You can extend the warranty for up to 3 years.
Their service is great.
One of my mates dropped his out of warranty iPad and shattered the screen.
They gave him a brand new iPad on the spot.
seriously why do people keep comparing, no other laptop has that sort of display, they can charge what they want as they were the first to engineer it. Now everyone else will copy as usual though im sure lol, seriously though most beefy laptops i price up get within striking distance of that price if you pick a premium product, not some POS plastic laptop that will fall apart in 6 months with the same "specs"
Hmm, guess i had some bad experiances with Apple warranties
I don't know why people consider it expensive.
There really isn't any competition, and there probably wont be for some time (ever?).
Look at the hunk of junk that Lenovo ships for two and a half large.
exactly, tho i rate the high end Lenovos quite highly aswell in build, they are still similar in price so i don't understand where people deem them too expensive.
Because it is expensive. The cost being justified by the hardware doesn't make it cheap. That price range is not for the bulk of people.
Who made the screen? LG?
Yes, definition number 1 would say that's expensive. As would much of 2a, and 2b. Thanks :S
