just ordered through Vanbar.
now we play the waiting game...
My d700 just drove away..... So I"ll be doing a ring around and in the same boat. PC in Brisbane said they are yet to receive any stock and with their preorder list I could realistically expect to wait until May
Let's hope not......
I'm not surprised that it's possibly May earliest if you order one now. I preordered early March and I'm supposedly looking at mid-late April for my D800 to arrive. It's all speculation though since retailers don't know when and how many D800 they are getting from Nikon. Even Nikon themselves appear to have no idea as well...
9th in the queue
Ill just leave this here:
Also, there is evidence to suggest its a cluster fuck. A gent ordered from best buy last friday, and received it this friday.
Others who pre-ordered in Feb, being informed May 23rd Delivery.
I don't normally post here but the detail on it's head is amazing!

that is just wrong.
cause now I want one..
anyone know a good deal going for a pre order place in Perth?
See here for comparison prices: http://spot.lofico.com.au/product.php?product_name=D800 Leederville have been smashing grey market prices lately.
is that camerahouse's store?
Yep, sure is
My D800 arrived today - thanks to whoever it was who recommended DD photography - I pre ordered on the 9/2 from the Singapore side and all was good - fedex with no customs interference.
5 minutes playing with it and I am convinced that those claiming the number of pixels it has are practically useless are wrong - my old 50mm 1.4 at f/4 shows aliased pixels nicely.
edit: 100% crop
OK, one of the below images is your original 100% crop (plus another layer of JPEG artifacts, ahoy!). The other is the same image resized to 22MP equivalent (61%) and then enlarged. I'm not claiming there's no difference, you can pretty clearly see it. I'm just saying that the real resolution difference is really rather small.
Its the wrong type of image to compare.
I'm at a crossroads do you guys reckon it's worth going the D800 or pick up a second hand D700?
I'm usually shooting live music but the 8FPS from the D700 is rather appealing for [motor]sports or the occasional airshow...
The main thing that's putting me off the D800 is the massive RAWs.
Crop mode is 15mp. But yes if you need FPS, it prob aint the camera.
Fair point, though I think there might be a difference between resizing in software and a real 12M sensor. Not that I've yet tried it - probably should before I sell the D700.
Interesting to see it embiggened without any resampling
Many of those pixels seem useful.
I think the 700 would be more than adequate, the low light performance is pretty much the same and the more shots per card would likely be appreciated.
