I went the 16-35 (which I still havent used) only because in post you can fix it pretty easily. Click the mouse and ta-da.

Its somewhat sharper then the 17-35.

I used to have the 16-35mm, it wasn't that easy to correct.

Wide-open, marginally. Doesn't seem to really be an issue when stopped down from what I've been reading/seen reviewed.

The wildcard is that there is hardly any information about lens performance on the D800.. can only really use the performance on the D3X as a guideline.

I have the 14-24 and the 24PC-E, I love the TS lens. The ability to get such amazing DOF is priceless. I'm thinking of getting a 16-35 (filters) or a 18 and 21 Zeiss but undecided. I rarely use anything other than the 24. I would miss wider in confined areas like waterfalls and that's why I keep the 14-24 but filters really screw that a bit, usually need ND.

If you can't try one out anywhere and feel like a long drive, I'm out past Kyneton. Welcome to have a play.

As I mentioned earlier, I have been shooting with a 24mm equivalent FoV (on the horizontal axis) for around 12 months almost exclusively. Interestingly enough, I just went looking through the focal lengths I was using on my D700 with the 14-24 and 16-35 I have previously owned on the shots I consider keepers, I seem to use 22-24mm the most at the wide-angle, surprisingly I have more shots with the nifty fifty than I would've expected.

I think its pushing me towards a prime around the 24mm mark, so that then pushes the choices towards:

    PC-E 24mm
    Zeiss 25mm
    Zeiss 21mm

The thing that turns me off the Zeiss 21mm is the 82mm filter size though, as I'd have to replace my polarizer and get a larger Lee adapter ring as everything I've got is 77mm currently.

Thanks for the offer, I did have a play with one at Vanbar on a D3X a couple of weeks ago and the 25mm Zeiss I mentioned above as well. Obviously that was only inside a shop, not out doing a landscape shoot.

I'd be interested in seeing some of your work with the lens if you'd be willing to share (even privately if you'd prefer). :)

I'm not sure how to post an image but if you send me an email I'll send you a good example of what can be achieved with the 24PC-E for landscapes.

How about the 24 1.4G, a really nice prime around that focal length.

I need to get myself on a list somewhere :upset: I've been slack and have paid the price..

Next week is what my local camera house said. But she quoted me $3800 and won't budge but promised to ring me when they arrive:mad:
