Fortunately I've been sticking to mostly the inner points so it was only until I tested the camera I realised it suffered from it. Otherwise it has been a trooper.

Power47, I'm interested to hear your expanded view about the Colour not being as nice vs the D3s. Comparing against my D700 the D800 has much better colour. I have no experience with the D3s though.

Moving up from the D700, when looking at a D800 image I too see that it looks to have more noise when you zoom in. However looking at images from both cameras at the same visible dimensions, the noise disappears and there is so much more detail with the 800.

I'm loving the fact that I can crop and crop and still have so much resolution; I know I should better compose my photos :p

God and I'm not sure why people keep assuming that I'm doing like for like comparison and not taking all my other preferences and pros and cons for my specific needs into account *yawn*

I do apologise to the high and mighty, I wasn't aware that you're both such purely objective people that would never post an opinion on anything...

    LAAAAAAWL high five mate haha.

the only reason either of us compared it to the d3s is cos we own them... not cos we think they r meant to be rivals.

and for the record u would have to be retarded to buy a new d3s now, so in the real world they r the same price.

man im sorry i didnt really do specific tests or anything, its just that iv been looking at d3s files for years and so i guess i get used to knowing how they look un-edited, then when loading up the d800 they just looked a lot more flat.

keep in mind this was just my initial reaction, it could be completely in my head!

So my D800E is just under 2 weeks old. Last night I went out for a shoot, went to plug in my cable release, and the female plug in the camera has receeded into the body! I couldn't plug the bloody thing in and was hell pissed.

Called Nikon servicing and he said that's not normal and to bring it in.

After speaking with Myer (who I bought it from) he said to bring it in, show them, they will order a brand new one for me and I can give them the old one when the new one comes in :) Winner winner.

All this means is my trip to Victoria this week is going to be limited to 30 second exposures. May as well leave the Big Stopper at home...

I have to agree with you there Justin. The d800 NEFs are not as punchy and the shadows transitions are not as smooth as the D3s in natural lighting conditions. I've also found noticeable high iso noise at native resolutions vs the d3s nefs. Small issue as these two cameras are like distant cousins and each specialise in different areas.

Also for those of you who use presets, commercial film preset packages. The d800 are totally off ... awaiting updates
