So who else has picked one up!?

I got one just before the lockdown and well thank god. I got the wife one with ACNH, and she hasn't stopped.

Any good game recommendations, I have been playing Zelda BOTW and just picked up Galaxy of Pen and Paper.

    Its a great old System,

Mario's not my thing, I've been looking at all the indie games and they look good.

    I should give Splatoon a try. :D

I buy a lot of the arcade classics, but am playing animal crossing at the moment. Thinking of looking for a few new games to play, kinda stumped - the witcher 3 did come out on it not too long ago, but I think I'll get that on PS4 rather than switch.

I've been told Cup Head is really good (I love the art style - old cartoons), but I'm aware it's considered very difficult. I'd probably lose interest pretty quickly.

I love diablo 3 and doom (2016) on my switch, amazing to be able to play AAA titles on the go. Puyo Tetris is fun and sonic mania is great too

I have been playing Galaxy of Pen and Paper, and I am pretty happy with it,

I love the Indy games, that said I am playing the demo of Splatoon, and I am very very tempted. If I had the money I would go for it.

I picked up Assassin's Creed 3 remastered (comes with all the DLC). Had a bit of a play, finding the controls less intuitive than when I played the AC games on Xbox360 years ago. Will reserve judgement until I've played it some more.

Fun multiplayer games I highly recommend are overcooked (will test your relationship) and any of the jackbox party games (good for group gatherings).

I'm thinking of getting one for the kids for Christmas, I just have a quick question about the controllers though. For most games can you use the individual joycons? So 2 player out of the box? Or do lots of games require both joycons to be used for a single player? Basically what do I need to buy to be able to play some 4 player games like Mario Kart/family party games.
    Thanks :)

It will depend on the game the first party games should all work, but honesty if you are just playing multiplayer on the TV some wired USB controllers will do much better than the single joycons.

for single player, yes you require both either one in each hand or in the supplied grip. multi a second pair is a good way to go for 4 players so think Mario Kart 8, but yes 2 players out of the box. If you get a second pair a charging dock for them is highly recommended.

IMHO you only use joycons in sp games that are built for it (eg Mario Odyssey) but anything else it's pro controller all the way.

Buyer beware on all the third party controllers, they vary wildly in quality I would recommend checking out reviews specifically done by WULFF DEN and Spawn Wave on YouTube. These guys do great aftermarket controller reviews.

When buying Switch stuff always be well aware of the brand, Nintendo has chosen to allow aftermarket controller makers (and carry cases, etc) to make their boxes look "official" - look in the bottom right corner of the front box to see the manufacturer.

Oh and you have kids, parental controls out of the gate. It's easy to do and if you do it from the get go you should be set.

This is a kind of "what console should I get?" question...but I couldn't find a more appropriate spot for it.

After years of being told that it will never happen, I have now been tasked with arranging a console for the kids - but shooters not allowed. So the instructions have been to get something like a Wii - the vision being the initial marketing it came out with - more active/involved games - think swinging controllers to replicate tennis, etc.

But given the Wii hasn't existed for years - is the Switch the best option?

Yes, very much so.. If you want the most modern experience
You could get a Wii U second hand with games though...quite a bit cheaper
