Exploring what though? I like exploring in other games when the makers have crafted nice details into the environment and characters etc...but procedurally generated stuff is pretty bland and lacking any real substance.

    This old horse still going.

Might have to rename this thread to WARHORSE, just like the one in the movie.

Most of it is 90% of the community arguing against a minority few who fail to be persuaded to put down the rose coloured glasses..
    Similar to the macbook thread.

    You mean this?

So giles666, how is the food at the Sony HQ canteen these days? Still bumping shoulders with Kazuo Hirai?

If I don't get to decide what constitutes a 'fun' core gameplay loop, you don't get to write off what is ane isn't relevant to people.

I don't see the 'grand scope' that you were talking about.

I see a bunch of mostly samey planets, set it a poor skybox.
With a bunch of flip-book animals, that don't exhibit any of the promised behaviors, that I have limited set of interactions with.
with a whole lot of gameplay elements that simply don't exist.

If I'm exploring a shared universe, is it unfair of me to expect to be able to see the people I'm sharing the universe with?... Knowing that user "CockGobbler13" named a Pig-Dino-Girrafe "Harambe13" doesn't fill me with a sense of discovery.

After Sean Murray mockery of skyboxes, is it unfair of me to expect that NMS would NOT HAVE A SKYBOX?

    What was achieved?

1/ A mostly pretty procedural engine was demonstrated with poor gameplay attached
2/ Sean Murray's pants are on Fire
3/ Hello Games fleeced me out of $60

It must be or someone who only follows steam pages and doesn't investigate any further than that.

So obviously you didn't watch any of the hundred SM interviews that have been embedded on this forum. That is NOT what he promised.

    I full on snorted lol

I start a survival game, secretly I love it despite all the BS around the game. Last time I stop play because of lack of content, this patch should give me a few more hours.

I find it pretty terrible as it appears to be made to make you walk as much as possible till you get your ship repaired. My ship is always 15mins away and then when I get to my ship, the objective tries to send me 10 mins away for resources when I can see what I need 3mins away from my ship in the other direction. That would be 10mins there and another 10mins back but being survival you have to find stuff to keep you alive so that could easliy take you an hour or more.

I was watching a streamer today play Astroneer and it looks amazing. Its similar to NMS but so much better in every way.

Alpha is out on steam on Friday. The Dev said it will be $20

Is it possible to buy a finished game nowadays? Its either Alpha, Beta or requires 4 patches...

    Nope.

Remember back before everyone had internet access and games had to be working before they were released? Now it's pushed out with a 5Gb release day patch and another the next day to fix the first one!

Don't get me started on video card drivers... 370mb every 3 days...

Like any other driver, only stay on the 'bleeding edge' if you're having issues

    It auto updates *shrugs*...

I remember when the Baldurs Gate 2 demo came out and it took up a whole CD on it's own.. now it's a 10th the size of a patch :D

I feel like the Baldur's Gate series probably isn't the best example to give, the first one was on 5 CD's + 1 more for Tales of the Sword Coast though I can't quite remember how many 2 was on. That would've been bigger than a lot of people's entire hard drives at that point.

Never fails to get a laugh.

At least some good came out of NMS.
