the seller? They have abut 97% positive feedback. Going through it there were a few negatives but usually cause the buyer didn't know what they were on about (unchecked emails etc)

I'd buy again from them. I didn't want a contract so this suited me. Otherwise I might have waited.

I'll wait until they drop in price a bit more after hitting our shores. But just about 99% sure I'll get one.

They may not. I'd like them to as well, but with them soon to be reportedly roaming on nextG it might be they only start stocking 2100/850 range 3g phones.

Gonna pick up one of these tonight - had a play at carphonewarehouse but none of the carriers are selling them on PAYG anymore so have to go to the nokia store to buy outright :( It seemed bloody excellent though, I can't wait.

it should pickup all of the settings when you pick your carrier.

The 5800 is awesome, had mine for 3 weeks now. Bugger waiting on Oz stock, the rumour is that it might only come with the "comes with music" add-on, which adds substantial $$$ to the price of the phone.

    http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1059139&p=27

Mine came with V11 firmware, and Nokia have just released v20 firmware, which I have upgraded to via NSU. The interface is even more snappier.

It is so easy to use, typing on it is awesome.

imo so much better than an iphone!

I have only had a quick play with an iphone, sure it was good, but the 5800 has some very attractive advantages:

better on screen keyboard for replying to email or smsing
    stylus – for handwriting
can fully access the file system to store whatever you want on it, treat it like a USB flash drive.

the iphone doesn't do stereo bluetooth, I cant believe the iphone is in mono!
    the iphone doesn't support handwriting
    the iphone doesn't do MMS
the iphone doesn't have an FM radio
the iphone has a 2mp camera
the iphone memory cannot be expanded
the iphone is limited to itunes
the iphone battery cannot be replaced
the iphone is bulky, the 5800 slightly smaller – fits in pocket easier.
    the iphone doesn't support flash

the iphone is made by Apple!

You will not be disappointed in the 5800!

Picked it up last night and loving it. To be fair it's my first 'modern' phone as I've had a 3315 for years, then a 8210 for more years, and most recently a cheapo 6020 to tide me over which all have basically the same interface and could just as well be the same phone.

I've used the iPhone a bit and was almost going to buy one, except that if I bought one on PAYG in the UK and then decided to come back to Australia O2 told me that they wouldn't/couldn't unlock the phone for me. So that would be £400 down the drain.

    This was:
    - cheaper
    - not tied to bloody Apple
    - allows you to run more than one app at once
    - seems pretty much just as good at browsing the net
    - seems as good/better for mapping. Has googlemaps but Nokia maps doesn't require network connection. There's probably an iPhone alternative which doesn't but Nokia maps is free(ish).
    - seems to let you just dump music on it and it picks it up. I copied a few mp3s over into /Music on the memory card and it shows up. No more stupid iTunes db and 4 letter file names (on my iPod)
    - has BBC iPlayer!
    - lets me have doom2 map09 as my ringtone :D (ok this isn't exactly new)
    - possibly better battery life, but I'll let you know in a few days :p

plus all the above points from the errant heffalump.

It was £250 at the nokia store, but they gave me a free set of PX-100 headphones which I might be able to flog for £15 or so :p

Various stores in Hampstead, Bristol, and around Russell Sq all quoted me GBP220-230. I think one was even an Orange store.
I highly doubt anyone would post.

I'm in HK now and the 5800 is been promoted quite heavily here as well. Normal retail stores sell these at around 700AUD with our shitty exchange rate atm, but if you go to those "other" stores they do go for as low as 500AUD. Anyway had a play with these and I'm still not totally convinced about it. Its response is slow and it can become quite annoying when the phone suddenly switches from landscape to portrait in the middle of use. Anyway the 5800 retail price does put it on the same league as other big hitters like the iPhone 3G, Samsung i900, LG KC910, Samsung M8800 Pixon as well as a host of other phones that we don't see here.

yeah, menu change is a bit slow, once you have something loaded up like messaging or phone dialing its not to bad. But yeah the menu change is worst then the N95 running some of the earlier firmwares. This is prolly as much a optimisation problem as a phone problem. This is afterall the first S60 5th ed phone on the market so I expect there to be a heap of things they can improve on and fix.

Haha I know the feeling - The E71 is by far the nicest phone I've ever owned. But the gadget geek inside of me wants a 5800.

I just console myself by thinking that the 5800 would be a BIG bulge in my suit pants, and have no where the build quality of the E71.
