I'm long overdue for a new phone (still using a galaxy S2) and the new Nokia 6 looks right up my alley. The old one was tempting but I decided to wait, and now they're doing a newer model with a bunch of fixes. Seems to be the best midrange phone of choice by far.

Yeah looks to be a good update, the value now becomes very good, and in 2018 you shouldn't have a phone without USB type C

plenty of other legitimate dual sim options out there, including the moto G5S plus, and the LG G6 H870DS variant if you want something a bit higher-end. will be interesting to see how much the 2018 model goes for.

Apparently the new 6 will remain the same price, which would be a massive deal

I like the Vanilla Android thing, though. I've gone through enough Android variants to know I prefer Vanilla.

moto phones are about as vanilla as it gets. if the nokia 6 is cheap though, it'll still be a great deal.

its $479 on ebay at the moment https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/359664

impossible to get a snapdragon 835 phone for less, much less one with band 28 and NFC (which chinadroids always seem to be missing out on).

beware though because the onslaught of snapdragon 845 phones will be coming in the next month or so.

Yes we have MWC coming up. Nokia have stated there will be some exciting things announced. Could be the Nokia 9 and some cheaper models.

Looking at Nokia 6/8 at the moment for a new phone for my mother. JB has them listed $400 for the 6 and $600 for the 8. The 6's are the older model with Micro-USB though, is there a decent local place to buy the 2018 model I've been seeing?

What would you recommend for a average smart phone user?

If she's asking you for a phone rather than having her own opinions on them, the 6 would do fine, or even the 3.

I wonder if it has wifi hotspot capabilities, if so... might be a really good phone, use a tablet when you need it, use the phone for everything else
