i'm yet to see an upscaling tech that isn't a quality compromise. I'd love to see DLSS vs anything else in more games.

Having a 40" screen really shows off NATIVE 4K.

DLSS ON = Global DOF Filter On

Everything looks like a blurry mess with a DOF effect. Not what they said it would be.

Anyone else really struggling to see the effect? I mean there is a difference there, but not anything revolutionary to my eyes.
Doesn't look like its worth the fps loss at this point in my opinion.

In some scenes yes - others, can clearly see the differences, but the issue is it's only obvious back to back. and there were a couple of instances where I was looking at non RTX side thinking it was RTX.

I think part of the reason is, the traditional illumination methods, while inaccurate, can at times look more 'appealing' . The other issue in this case is, I don't know if it's his capture method , YT's compression or what but the whole thing looks awful even watching in 1080p60. His commentary often doesn't match up with what i'm seeing, as if it looks more obvious from his pt of view (looking at the actual game footage) or something.

You make a valid point about YT's compression, not sure how much effect that would have but I'm sure it would be something.

I feel like when I'm actually in the game doing stuff I'm not going to notice that subtle lighting difference but I'll notice less fps.
Would love to be proven wrong though, I'm all for new graphics tech but I just don't see what everyone was so excited about.

Thats a great point. In photography usually we are not after 'reality', but some emotional version of it. You are not trying to present reality. You are trying to build an emotional connection to the viewer.

I haven't tried it yet as i don't have an RTX game, but from all the YT/comparisons, all i see is 'different', not necessarily 'better'
Both sides do look different, but 'better' is very subjective.
The RTX off videos/pics also look good. None of them look 'bad'.

They may be more 'accurate', but better or worse? not so much...

I can see it looks different, but I personally think non-rtx looks better. I'm not looking at light to be accurate, I'm looking to have fun. I would turn rtx off personally.

But that video makes it much easier for me to see the differences.

flick shooters you leave it off, atmospheric fps you leave it on. pretty simple.

i had a look at the linked comparison. 'rtx on' does seem a little bit more realistic, wrt lighting particularly on animated models....and as the vid. narrator noted the lighting on animated figures seemed to be more realistically responding to light sources near to them.

Lol stop judging stuff by Looking at YouTube video's even good games looks super bad with the horrid compression....

I have tried it and DLSS is horrid. I am just playing with 0.7 resolution scale in Metro for performance with RT and its only a minor detail loss and no blurring occurs.

Here are uncompressed images I took with GFE https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1JNo9DSh7YUBShJyTibwwGd2OvKgu5G9P

Even these images dont do justice, In person its crystal clear.
DLSS also breaks HDR in Metro.

As for RT, you wont be able to tell the difference like in BFV because traditional techniques are already so much better. But it does make lighting more like in real life.

Been weighing things up, with the introduction of FreeSync support and the impossibility of getting a Vega56/64 at an affordable price any time soon the 2060 ($600 here) seems to be pretty good value coming from an R9 390. Should allow solid 1440p gaming, but I just need to pocket away some more on-call hours to justify the cost.

That and the fact it's limited to approx 60FPS mark according to Nvidia. Approaching false advertising territory as it stands.

Of course, it's just in this case upscaling is better than DLSS.
