pretty sure the slowdowns are specifically related to 8800GTS 320MB

What card + drivers were you using?

I've never had any slow down with my rig using 163.44

One thing I did have since installing Vista was Bf2142 crashing when loading Cerebre Landing, and the only way to fix that was to alt+tab before loading that map o_O

2x7800gtx in sli on vista 32 bit using 163.44 betas. in the demos of the bioshock and moh:a, when playing at highish details and 1680x1050 or higher i would get mysterious slow downs to about 2 fps. for instance i would be playing ok at the start of the demo for a few minutes then i get ~2 minutes of slow down, even if i press escape to goto the menu. Even alt-tabbing to the desktop and back doesnt help. Maybe I am experiencing something else. And yes, I updated to the august update of directx.

In the end, i set my res to 1024x768 and set my monitor to 4:3 scaling and had no slowdowns whatsoever.

Doesnt matter to me cuase those 2 games didn't float my boat, but another ut3 based title in the future might, so this issue still intrigues me.

My 320MB 8800GTS is fine, and its drivers are almost 2months old. Can't remember which though.

Any particular games, resolutions, operating systems or setups causing the apparent slowdown problems?

I was playing MOH:A last night on my 8800gts 320mb.

On MAX settings @ 1280x728 (as high as the plasma goes) and it didn't miss a beat. Also played Bioshock on max settings same res and it was no problems.

Don't wanna mess with my system, i'll update drivers when I start seeing some problems, but for now i'm sticking with what i've got.

PS. Runnin XP Media Centre, and sys spec below

from reading that tweakforce.com link it says that the drivers have been modded for better performance and better looking graphics. How does one do such a thing? Are these performance gains valid?

I don't get how the nvidia drivers are getting the best our of the graphics cards...? anyone explain?

and how come they're smaller than the nvidia ones?

i don't know but I think my 3D mark scores might be lower with the tweaked drivers...(didn't get to finish it, CPU test crashed my comp...:( had to increase Vcore...sigh) But frame rates look down from previous runs...I'll give 3D mark another run tomorrow. Going to sleep now....

edit: well i decided to run the 3dmark again. Passed it this time and my score is slightly higher. I think around 100-200 points higher compared to 93.74 or whatever the driver was.
